Enhanced PrintSmith Site Platform Introduced at EFI Connect

Press release from the issuing company

Miami – June 13, 2005 – EFI, the world leader in digital imaging and print management solutions for commercial and enterprise printing, is introducing the widely anticipated version 2.0 of its PrintSmith Site web-to-print add-on solution for users of the popular PrintSmith MIS system at its annual Connect users' conference taking place this week. PrintSmith version 7.2 will also be on display. With more than 5,500 facilities using the software worldwide, PrintSmith is the industry leading MIS solution for small printers. EFI PrintSmith Site is a simple, complete and integrated solution for PrintSmith MIS users that lets them easily and quickly extend their business to the web. No knowledge of web hosting, HTML or Internet infrastructure is required. EFI PrintSmith is a comprehensive, flexible and feature rich print management information system and the market leading solution for print and copy shops; PrintSmith Site will enable printers to offer online products and services that are completely integrated into the PrintSmith system for faster job turnaround and a more streamlined workflow. PrintSmith Site 2.0 is an entirely new platform, with numerous enhancements and performance improvements. The most noticeable feature is its entirely new and more intuitive user interface, making it both more attractive and easier to use for customers. The interface is similar to EFI's award-winning Digital StoreFront solution, and inherits the benefits of that product's rigorous user interface research and testing. Additionally, a new version of the EFI PrintMessenger PDF drivers, in combination with an all-new File Manager interface, provides an improved job submission workflow for PrintSmith Site 2.0 users. Along with the drivers, an enhanced secure file transfer capability eliminates FTP and is faster and more reliable. Other important new PrintSmith Site 2.0 features include: Simple Instant Quoting that allows users to see pricing online for other than pre-defined quantities; and Approval Workflows that allow specified customers to be designated as order approvers to control and manage print order flow between the site and PrintSmith at the print shop. A completely new set of documentation will be provided with version 2.0 when it ships in Q3. "We've been promising our loyal PrintSmith Site customers that we would make major advancements to this product," said Chuck Gehman, director of product marketing at EFI. “This new version goes a long way toward fulfilling that commitment, and it's only the beginning. With the release of this new platform and more dedicated resources, we will continue to advance PrintSmith Site with additional features that address customer requests.” PrintSmith 7.2 on Display at Connect The next release of PrintSmith will be shown in the demonstration lab at Connect, offering customers a sneak peek at the latest time-saving, business management enhancements. Some of the key new features include the addition of an employee time clock to the Tracker module, changes to the management of stock inventory, and a tool to generate delivery tickets. This release of PrintSmith is optimized to work with Fiery, the world leading production servers for digital printing, in a two-way exchange between the Fiery print controller (System 6 and higher) and the MIS system. Beta testing will begin next month, and version 7.2 is expected to ship by the end of the year.
