January 10th, 2005 – On its 75th anniversary, Express Newspapers (Ceylon) Ltd is looking to the future and installing a new Goss Community press. Mr. Kumar Nadesan, Managing Director of Express Newspapers states: “As Goss Community presses have been part of our past success, it is only fitting that our 75th anniversary celebrations are marked by the installation of a new Goss Community press.” The new Goss Community press has two four-high towers, two mono units with reelstands and two freestanding reelstands. It is the third Goss Community press that Express Newspapers has installed, but the first of its presses to include four-high towers. Scheduled for installation in January 2005, it will be capable of printing 16 pages in one pass, including eight color pages, at speeds up to 35,000 cph. Mr. Nadesan states: “The new Goss Community press is part of our vision for the future. The inclusion of two four-high towers in our new press configuration will allow us to have the benefits of full color production and pagination. This will help us attain the high quality standards that the Sri Lankan newspaper market is demanding today. “Goss’ expandable capabilities are also important to our business. We have plans to increase the number of publications in the next two years and our Community presses will allow us to expand our business as the marketplace demands.” Express Newspapers (Ceylon) Ltd produces newspapers for the Tamil speaking population in Sri Lanka, including the daily Virakesari, Virakesari Illustrated Weekly and weekly titles Mithran and Metro News. “Virakesari is the oldest Tamil publication in Sri Lanka,” states Mr. Nadesan, “And as such has a special place in the hearts of Tamil readers. It is proud to call itself an independent publication.” Mr. Kumar Nadesan concludes, “The company is confident that Goss’ superior technology will help us achieve our goals. Our investment in Goss Community presses has helped us succeed over the last 75 years. I look forward to the success that our new Goss Community press will bring us in the future.”
