FORTUNE Names Valassis to 100 Best Companies to Work For

Press release from the issuing company

LIVONIA, Mich., Jan. 10 -- Valassis, the leading company in marketing services and Connective Media(TM), proudly announced today that it has been named, for the eighth consecutive year, as one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For" by FORTUNE magazine. Valassis has been recognized by FORTUNE since the magazine began publishing the "100 Best Companies to Work For" list in 1998. Valassis is one of only 22 companies that have consistently been on FORTUNE's prestigious list and was named to the list's "Hall of Fame." Valassis is the only Michigan-based company to make FORTUNE's annually published list since its inception. "We couldn't be more proud to be named to FORTUNE's '100 Best' list for the eighth year in a row," said Alan F. Schultz, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Valassis. "Year after year, our employees have been key to our success. Their talent, dedication and diversity continuously foster an exciting and positive work environment and, in 2004, enabled Valassis to reach $1 billion in revenue for the first time in our history." FORTUNE considers a number of factors when evaluating companies, ranging from employee satisfaction and a thriving professional environment to work/life balance opportunities such as those offered to Valassis employees, including on-site fitness centers, on-site doctor, hair salon and dry-cleaning services. Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz, best-selling authors of The 100 Best Companies to Work For in America, helped FORTUNE evaluate its "100 Best" list. FORTUNE works in conjunction with the Great Place to Work Institute and conducts a survey of employees from nominated companies. Two- thirds of a company's score is based on the responses from randomly selected employees on the Great Place to Work Trust Index, a survey instrument measuring the quality of workplace culture. FORTUNE also evaluates each company's benefits and practices. "Our employees are our greatest assets and we take great care to ensure that they are valued on a professional as well as personal level," said Marcia Hyde, Vice President of Human Resources at Valassis. "We succeed as a company because together we work creatively to generate a vibrant and family-friendly work environment that helps employees to achieve a balance between home and work." Valassis' consistent inclusion on the "100 Best Companies to Work For" list is reflective not only of the company's culture at all of its subsidiaries across the United States but within its global community as well. The company's employee-focused culture now crosses continents and reaches more than 4,000 employees worldwide. "As we continue to build our overseas businesses, our employee-oriented culture will serve as a driving force in their success," continued Schultz. FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list will appear in its Jan. 24, 2005 issue, which will be available on newsstands beginning Jan. 17, 2005. The "100 Best Companies to Work For" list will be available at http://www.fortune.com beginning Jan. 10, 2005.
