E&D Web adds third gapless Goss International web press

Press release from the issuing company

20th December 2004 - E&D Web has taken another step closer to 100-percent gapless web press production with the recent installation of a third Goss Sunday press system. The commercial web printing specialist in Cicero, Illinois replaced two Heidelberg M-1000 presses with a gapless Sunday 2000 press. The six-unit system features a Goss Contiweb FDTM paster and an Ecocool dryer with integrated chill rolls. E&D Web also equipped the press with a perforator and sheeter. "We bought a third Sunday press because of the efficiencies we saw on the first Sunday 2000. We saw the high speeds it ran, the reliability, and the consistent quality," according to E&D Web CEO Chris Love. Love says a comprehensive approach to production has allowed his company to run 25 percent faster with the gapless presses while cutting makeready times by 75 percent and paper consumption by more than five percent. "Partnerships with Sun Chemical and other consumable suppliers, operator experience, maintenance and an emphasis on training are all vital to our success with the Sunday press platform," he explains. With the installation of the new Sunday 2000 press, three of the four full-web presses at E&D Web are gapless Goss models. A two-web M-1000 and six-unit 17 ¾" x 26 ½" half web also remain in production. The company installed a Sunday 3000 press in 1997 and a Sunday 2000 press in 2001. The first Sunday 2000 press included the first Ecocool dryer with integrated chill rolls ever installed in the United States. E&D Web is a family owned company that has been in the web offset business for 40 years and has more than 106 years total printing experience. The company specializes in magazine inserts, catalogs and many types of direct mail printing. A complete digital prepress department is equipped for preflighting, project preparation, assembly, imaging and archiving of digital data. E&D Web also provides an extensive variety of postpress capabilities including folding, saddlestitching, shrink wrapping, drilling, wafer sealing, gluing, and shipping.
