Quebecor Picks Atempo Time Navigator for Data Protection
Press release from the issuing company
PALO ALTO, Calif. and PARIS--Jan. 11, 2005-- Atempo, a leader in data protection for information lifecycle management, today announced that Quebecor Numeric, a subsidiary of Quebecor World Inc., one of the world's largest commercial print media services companies, has chosen Time Navigator(TM) to protect mission critical customer reference data. In particular, Quebecor Numeric was attracted to Atempo's comprehensive support for the Mac OS X operating environment and Time Navigator's unparalleled ability to execute fast and accurate file restoration.
Quebecor backs up 3 terabytes of data per day - 1.7 terabytes residing on the newly acquired Apple Xserve G5 server and 1.3 terabytes spread over multiple Windows servers. All of the data is backed up to tape using an Overland Storage library equipped with SDLT drives. Administrators carry out a full backup during night once a week with incremental backups performed several times a day.
"We considered many data protection solutions, but we chose Atempo's Time Navigator for its unique Time Navigation feature and its ability to perform in the Mac OS X environment," said Laurent Marie, technical director of Quebecor Numeric. "Quebecor Numeric is in the pre-press business and we often go back and forth between drafts retouching clients' images. Time Navigation is the perfect data recovery technology for us because it allows us to accurately restore any file from any point in time."
"In our business we run a critical mass of data on Macintosh workstations. The purchase of Apple Xserve G5 and Xserve RAID enabled us to consolidate data previously stored on three Windows servers," Marie added. "This allows us to reduce operational costs and improve performance."
"We look forward to helping Quebecor Numeric meet their data protection challenges," said Francois Gauthier, Chief Technology Officer. "Companies like Quebecor Numeric are increasingly adopting the Mac OS X for its high-performance, reliability and security - vital characteristics that are shared by Atempo's data protection solutions. Furthermore, companies now recognize, and are attracted to, our commitment to bring industry-leading data protection technologies to all major operating environments - a commitment demonstrated by our complete support for Mac OS X."
