Creo Supports Growth in Digital Printing with Powerful New Spire Color Servers

Press release from the issuing company

CHICAGO, Ill.--Oct. 10, 2004-- Creo Inc. has developed new Spire(TM) color servers for the Xerox DocuColor and iGen3 digital color presses, and a comprehensive package of software integration and color management tools for digital printers and commercial printers who are adding digital printing to their operations. At Graph Expo, Creo is demonstrating the new Spire(TM) CXP8000 color server for the Xerox DocuColor 8000 digital press, the latest Spire version for the Xerox DocuColor iGen3 digital production press, and the new Spire(TM) CXP3535e for the Xerox DocuColor 3535(TM) printer/copier. Creo is the ideal partner for commercial printers who are considering adding digital printing to their operations. Creo, the knowledgeable prepress supplier, has collaborated with Xerox Corporation for nearly 10 years producing the high-performance Spire color servers that offer flexibility and workflow control to create catalogs, flyers, and complex long-run variable information jobs. Creo resells the new Xerox DocuColor 8000, 6060(TM), 5252, and the refurbished 2045 digital color presses, as well as the Xerox DocuColor 3535 printer/copier to commercial printers in the United States. Creo also serves as a reseller source for the Xerox iGen3 digital production press. New! Spire CXP8000 for DocuColor 8000 The Spire CXP8000 color server has been designed for the new 80-page-per-minute Xerox DocuColor 8000 digital press. Based on unique Creo technology, the Spire CXP8000 color server incorporates Spire's newest features such as support for comprehensive variable information, special features for the production workflow environment, sophisticated color management tools, expanded document printing capabilities, and a friendly user interface. New! Spire for iGen3 The latest version of the Spire color server for the Xerox iGen3 digital production press features advanced image and color quality. Device Link technology enables the four-dimensional translation of colors to preserve the black separation across the entire color space. Solid CMY colors are preserved as 100 percent of their original value for text and graphics. An edge enhancement feature eliminates jagged edges by aligning the edges of text and graphics. New! Spire CXP3535e for DocuColor 3535 The new Spire CXP3535e color server for the Xerox DocuColor 3535 color copier/printer brings the benefits of Creo professional graphic arts solutions to small print shops and graphics-intensive office environments. The Spire CXP3535e features a new user interface and provides a professional production workflow with outstanding color and advanced capabilities for customized printing with information that varies from page to page. (See full story in press release, "Xerox Packs More Power in Professional Color Printer with Enhanced Color Server from Creo".) New! Spire Color Server Goes Wi-Fi Creo has developed a tool for monitoring multiple Spire color servers from anywhere in the company's facility using wireless connection. The new Spire Pocket Viewer runs on a PDA supported by the Windows Mobile(TM) 2003 operating system. The PDA connects with Spire color servers to provide real time information on the status of the digital front end (DFE), the print jobs, and the presses from anywhere on the premises. The Spire Pocket Viewer is a shareware utility included with the Spire color server and can be downloaded from the Creo web site at www.creo.com/pocketviewer. Generate Revenue by Adding Digital Printing Offset printers are discovering they can generate increased revenue and retain customers by delivering affordable, high-quality digital printing to clients with tight deadlines. Creo has developed seamless connections between commercial printers' existing Prinergy or Brisque prepress workflow systems and the Spire color server for digital printing. This facilitates greater connectivity in the digital printing environment, offers greater control with less room for error, and faster turnaround times. The same print job can be printed digitally or by offset for maximum flexibility and efficiency. Prinergy Connects to Xerox FreeFlow: Unifies Offset and Digital Workflow The Prinergy workflow management system also features connectivity with Xerox's FreeFlow(TM) software through the Prinergy Digital Print Interface. Through a single interface, jobs can be sent to both digital and offset presses resulting in a more economical and efficient operation. Short runs, first-offs, and supplementary runs can all be rerouted from a traditional workflow to a digital workflow, just in time, and on a case-by-case basis by the Prinergy operator. The Prinergy Digital Print Interface supports the Creo Spire color server and the Xerox DocuSP color controller, providing full access to the digital print settings, enabling job ticketing from within Prinergy. New! Brisque Prepress Workflow Connects to Spire Color Server The new version 5.0 of the Brisque workflow system features a new fully-integrated, automatic link to the Spire color server. It provides users with the ability to set job parameters and impose jobs on the Brisque for use in a Spire digital print job. The process is fully automated without operator intervention. No special training or additional hardware is required. "As the founder of the Networked Graphic Production(TM) initiative, Creo made a strategic decision to implement JDF in its prepress and digital workflow solutions," said Stan Coleman, corporate vice president, printing workflow solutions, Creo. "The Brisque and Spire interface is Creo's latest realization of this goal, taking advantage of the non-proprietary JDF interface and enabling a truly automated and error-free workflow." New! Profile Wizard Digi Creo has developed a color management tool for digital printing that easily creates color profiles. By leveraging the power of the Creo Profile Wizard(TM) color management family, Profile Wizard(TM) Digi was developed to address the unique needs of the digital print market. Creo developed this tool to enhance the color quality and consistency in Xerox digital print solutions. The Profile Wizard Digi color management software recognizes the different technical parameters of each Xerox DocuColor printer and its color performance to create accurate ICC profiles. Profile Wizard Digi software is coupled with the GretagMacbeth iCColor(TM) spectrophotometer for ease of use and error-free measurement of color charts. Profile Wizard Digi will be released in late 2004. See live demonstrations of Creo's print on-demand systems at the Creo booth (#4006) and at the Xerox booth (#1431) at Graph Expo 2004, North America's largest trade show for the printing and graphic arts industries, in Chicago, IL, October 10-13, 2004. These products are available through Creo in North America, and worldwide through Xerox sales channels.
