Press release from the issuing company

SOMERVILLE, Mass.--Jan. 5, 2004-- Ames On-Demand, a leading provider of content management and digital custom printing solutions, and O'Reilly & Associates, Inc., the largest independent publisher of computer books, have partnered to build the O'Reilly Education Exchange. Under this agreement, Ames On-Demand will provide the custom publishing technology and short-run digital book manufacturing services in support of the O'Reilly Education Exchange, which gives academic, corporate, professional trainers, and government customers the following: -- The ability to create custom books using content from O'Reilly's Safari Tech Books Online repository, O'Reilly Network Article Archive, a new Learning Object Repository, and personal material submitted by an instructor; -- The ability to create on-line syllabi with direct links into corresponding content; -- The availability of a Learning Object Exchange server through which instructors may share supplemental training materials on related books and subjects; and -- Short-run digital book manufacturing services including one-color and four-color digital printing, various binding options, and kitting and fulfillment. Upon executing the contract, Ames On-Demand began development of a fully functioning O'Reilly BookBuild Web site as part of the O'Reilly Education Exchange. The BookBuild component includes a secure digital library and online ordering system for O'Reilly's clients. "The textbook market is ripe for change. The current system of creating and delivering textbooks is expensive and offers little value for students and educators alike. We believe that the market is primed for innovation, and we plan to lead the way for computer science and information technology educators and students," said CJ Rayhill, O'Reilly & Associates CIO and General Manager of O'Reilly's new Education division. "Ames On-Demand's BookBuild solution will allow us to offer something new -- customized course materials from O'Reilly's complete library of books, articles and shared learning objects." "Working with Ames On-Demand is a natural fit for O'Reilly and its tech-savvy clients," said Tom Delano, Senior Executive of Development for Ames On-Demand. "With Ames' BookBuild system, professors and instructors can use an advanced, yet intuitive, web-based technology to create, proof, customize, and order the books they need to teach."
