MAN Roland: Management Change in Commercial Web Press Business Unit

December 2003 -- Erich Wech (63) has retired. Latterly manager of the Commercial Web Press Business Unit, his career commenced with an apprenticeship as a fitter. Mr. Wech progressed through the press development and design department holding at various times all management positions.
An early milestone was his appointment as chief engineer in 1980. He played a major role in the development of MAN Roland commercial web presses, and had total responsibility for the Commercial Web Press Business Unit since 1999.
Hartmut Massierer (48) succeeds Erich Wech as manager of the Commercial Web Press Business Unit. His last position prior to this appointment was head of project management for the American market which also involved order controlling and processing.
Mr. Massierer joined the MAN Group 24 years ago when he worked in the MAN motor construction operations. Three years later he came to MAN Roland to work in web press R & D, and in 1988 transferred to the commercial web press development department. His projects included development of the POLYMAN printing units as well as the 2:3:3 and 2:5:5 folders.
One of the many positions held by this graduate engineer in the course of his career so far was head of folder design for newspaper and commercial web presses.
