Heidelberg To Sponsor GATF/PIA Color-Management Conference

Press release from the issuing company

KENNESAW, Ga., December 4, 2003 – Heidelberg USA, the printing industry's leading voice in color reproduction, is sponsoring the upcoming Graphic Arts Technical Foundation and Printing Industries of America Color-Management Conference, the premiere event for color management in the United States. The conference, which is expected to draw more than 260 participants, is scheduled to take place in Phoenix, Ariz., Dec. 7-9. Separate days of the conference are dedicated to imaging and photography, prepress workflow and the pressroom. Ray Cassino, director of prepress for Heidelberg USA, plans to highlight the importance of consistent and predictable color reproduction during a keynote presentation on Tuesday, December 9. "Heidelberg's viewpoint on color management is that you should start from your press and work backwards," Cassino said. "It's important to print to a standard and then calibrate your proof to the press, this will shorten the makeready time, reduce waste and yield a proof that is a close match to the press sheet." Cassino will also be part of a team of Heidelberg experts that will be on hand to field questions from customers during an informal roundtable luncheon on Monday, Dec. 8. Heidelberg also donated 25 copies of its Supercolor color management tool for a GATF training session entitled, "PDF Application Tools to Work with Color and PDF." This session, scheduled to take place Monday at 3:30, will cover the configuration of Acrobat Distiller for handling ICC profiles and offer the opportunity to work hands on converting ICC profiles within a PDF file and setting guidelines for PDF color settings Supercolor is Heidelberg's versatile, user-friendly PDF color management solution that eliminates the problems that can occur – particularly during printing – when using colors from Lab, ICCBased, DeviceN, CalRGB and DeviceRGB color spaces. Supercolor checks all the color spaces, profiles and spot colors used in your PDF and helps spot potential sources of error in a matter of seconds.
