Kamar Aulakh appointed president of Quark

DENVER - July 29, 2003 - Quark Inc. today announced that Kamar Aulakh has been appointed the company's president, and executive team members Jürgen Kurz, Debra Hansen, and Susan Friedman will assume greater responsibilities. In his new role, Aulakh will improve the interoperability of Quark's products and services. He will now report directly to Quark's board of directors. "Kamar has demonstrated that he is the right person to lead our software business into the future," said Fred Ebrahimi, Quark's chairman and CEO. "He has built world-class software development centers in the United States and India, and has proven his development and managerial expertise countless times over the last eight years." "Peak productivity is as crucial to Quark as it is to our customers," said Kamar Aulakh, Quark's newly appointed president. "Now that QuarkXPress 6 has shipped, it's time to raise the bar and ensure that our solutions offer the most comprehensive tools for enterprise publishing and content management." Aulakh joined Quark in 1995 and has held a variety of roles, most recently vice president of research and development. He was instrumental in the inception and continuing development of Quark's suite of enterprise solutions, including Quark Content Manager and Quark Publishing System (Enterprise edition). New responsibilities for the executive team Jürgen Kurz has been promoted to senior vice president of product development. Kurz will lead the entire development of Quark's publishing products, from product management, to research and development, through quality assurance. In her new capacity as senior vice president of worldwide sales and services, Debra Hansen will expand her enterprise sales and services activities to encompass strategic accounts and enterprise sales and services around the world. Hansen will oversee all of Quark's enterprise sales, professional services, system integration, and custom development. As senior vice president of marketing, Susan Friedman will assume responsibility for all marketing and communications activities worldwide, including business development, strategic relationships, and the development of new QuarkAlliance programs. Fred Ebrahimi will continue to be Quark's chairman and CEO, and will focus on the long-term growth of the company.
