June 12, 2007, Pewaukee, Wisconsin – More than 100 members of Wisconsin’s printing and education communities were on hand during a sunny and pleasant midday dedication ceremony for the new Harry V. Quadracci Printing Education and Technology Center (HVQ PETC) in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. Located on the campus of the Waukesha County Technical College, this new facility represents a partnership between Wisconsin’s thriving printing community and the state’s technical college system.

The 23,600 square foot facility (constructed at a cost of $3.5 million) contains fifteen offices, three lecture halls, two computer graphics classrooms, a digital photography studio, a color measurement lab, a bookstore and a 4,000 square foot Demo Center to showcase the latest printing and finishing technologies. This project was funded by a combination of donations from private individuals and businesses, along with public funding.

Dr. Barbara Prindiville, president of the Waukesha County Technical College, welcomed the gathered crowd to open the festivities at 11:30 a.m. In her remarks, Dr. Prindiville noted the extensive cooperation among state agencies and the private sector that brought the vision of a new applied technology center to fruition. “There’s always a lot of talk about the need to collaborate in today’s business environment,” said Dr. Prindiville, “but there are few industries that have demonstrated true collaboration as consistently as the printing sector in our region.”

The next speaker was Timothy J. Burton, President of Burton and Mayer Inc., a leading commercial printing company in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Burton serves as chairman of the board for the Institute for Graphics and Imaging (IGI), and is a board member for the Printing Industries of Wisconsin. Burton introduced IGI executive director Hal Hinderliter, who spoke about the importance of the new applied technology center before presenting awards of recognition to the project’s major donors. “This project has brought together the facilities, the partners from education, from industry and from the vendor community that we need for success,” noted Hinderliter, “and I assure you that I will not rest until we have realized the full potential of that opportunity.”

On hand to receive engraved plaques (featuring a custom die-struck medallion commemorating the new Harry V. Quadracci Printing Education and Technology Center) were:

-    Marilyn Mueller, representing Mueller Graphic Supply
-    Joseph Falcone, representing Kodak
-    Brian McKittrick and Adam Winkelman, representing Siemens Energy and Automation
-    Carole Glass, representing the Edmund and Anne Modjeski Fund

In addition, Hinderliter presented gifts to recognize the important efforts of Tim Burton and of Niall Power, president and CEO of the Printing Industries of Wisconsin. In conclusion, all of the participants joined Dr. Prindiville for the ribbon cutting at 12:00 p.m., followed by tours of the new facility and a buffet luncheon provided by WCTC.
