J.S. McCarthy Printers Installs Komori Lithrone S40 with Perfector

Press release from the issuing company

Rolling Meadows, IL, August 16, 2007 -- Komori America Corporation, a premier manufacturer of sheetfed and web offset printing presses, has installed an eight-color, Lithrone S40 perfector (LS840P) at J.S. McCarthy Printers of Augusta, Maine. The company serves New England, including New York City, and operates on a 24/7 basis, producing work that ranges from academic and technical publications to greeting cards, fine art, general commercial work, and retail folding cartons. McCarthy needed a press that could handle this variety of jobs while delivering the high quality and operating efficiency required to succeed in today’s price-dominated marketplace. Before buying, McCarthy analyzed its operations and determined the pressroom was spending half its productive time performing makereadies on existing equipment. After looking at presses from several manufacturers, McCarthy selected the Komori LS840P on the basis of its high level of automation for quick, consistent makeready, fast running speed, and ability to print on a variety of substrates. The LS840P employs Komori’s double circumference, three-cylinder perfecting configuration, permitting the press to be used for both straight eight-color jobs with spot or special colors, as well as for 4/4 perfecting with highly accurate front-to-back registration.
“You have to be very, very efficient to remain competitive today,” said Rick Tardiff, president of J.S. McCarthy Printers. “When you spend half your day doing makeready, it becomes just as important as running speed. The Komori press has reduced our makeready time by approximately 50 percent, which gives us more capacity. And it’s enhanced our versatility. This press allows us to go from straight printing to perfecting and back again. We can get more work done on this press.”
Additionally, in tests against other presses in its pressroom, McCarthy found that the Komori delivers superior color and image quality. Tardiff is so pleased with the LS840P’s productivity that he has advanced the timeframe for the planned purchase of a second press. This will be a straight eight-color Komori Lithrone, with delivery now scheduled for early next year.
