La Republica, Colombia, invests in Goss Community SSC press to increase capacity

Press release from the issuing company

July 20th, 2007 – Leading Colombian financial daily, La Republica, has invested in a new Goss Community SSC press to improve color quality and capacity. The press, due to be installed later this year, will be housed in a new building at the company’s facility in Bogotá.
La Republica is part of the leading Colombian media group, EL COLOMBIANO, which has a number of Goss presses installed across its sites. The new press will be used to print the daily newspaper, La Republica, which has a circulation of 75,000 copies, as well as a range of semi-commercial inserts with varying circulations for a wide variety of customers including government offices, associations, schools, transport agencies, and religious groups. Additionally, the press will print a range of newspapers for the EL COLOMBIANO Group from Monday to Saturday.
According to Juan Carlos Hernandez, vice general manager at La Republica, “We currently print two runs of the daily newspaper, La Republica, a standard broadsheet with 42 pages, 12 of which are in full color. This new press will increase our color capacity by 70 percent and reduce our production time, making us more competitive in the marketplace and enabling us to offer more possibilities to our customers.”
With a speed of 35,000 copies per hour, the Community SSC press at La Republica will include four four-high towers, five reelstands and a folder with an upper former. The press also includes pneumatic brakes that allow faster responses to changes in web tension, contributing to less waste.
“We chose the Community SSC press for its proven reliability and durability,” confirms Juan Carlos Hernandez. “As a major financial newspaper, La Republica has a growing readership, and we are confident that our investment will provide us with the flexibility we need to meet the changing demands of our customers and readers.”
Fernando Guerrero, sales manager for Goss International, concludes, “We have been closely following the steady growth in the Colombian print industry and offer a variety of solutions to the specific production requirements of printers and publishers there. The popular Community SSC press has the print quality, versatility and ease-of-use features to make it a long-term, reliable and economic choice for many newspaper printers in the region.”
