Oce VarioPrint 5000 comes through with flying colors
Press release from the issuing company
Poing, 22 May 2003 — After being put through their paces in a six-month pilot phase, the Oce VarioPrint 5115 and 5160, the digital production presses for cutsheet printing, are now officially available. European pilot customers included 19 enterprises and organisations from the manufacturing, finance, public administration, education and print service segments. 11 systems are already in productive operation in the USA.
The printers perform superbly across the entire range of functions and applications offered by the Océ VarioPrint 5000 line-up: zero-compromise quality and printing speed on a variety of print media, a wide choice of print formats and, particularly with Océ CustomTone, printing with deco and corporate colours. The Océ VarioPrint 5115 and 5160 have also been tested to verify interoperability with frontend solutions such as Océ PRISMA + APA/POD/LCDS or Océ Bookstore. Océ also offers finishing functions and further options such as the VP 5000 ROLLFEEDER and VP 5000 STITCHER.
Easily outperforming the rivals
What the pilot customers appreciated most was the productivity bonus. Users profit from minimal down time and brief cleaning cycles, for instance. Among other key benefits, pilot customers also welcomed the simplicity of the GUI and the ease with which the new Océ VarioPrint handles special paper. There are also fewer paper jams—another point that demonstrates the quality of the Océ system.
Productivity bonus with technical innovation
As of May a cascade will be available which increases the input capacity from a standard four trays to a total of eight, creating a capacity of 10,400 sheets in all. Productivity can be boosted even more by combining the Océ VarioPrint 5000 with the Océ VP 5000 ROLLFEEDER, which is available from October. The add-on web feed unit increases the input capacity to 70,400 sheets, enabling unattended production for 12 hours at a printing speed of up to 162 pages per minute. In combination with the Océ VP 5000 STITCHER, the Océ VarioPrint systems become an integrated, fully automated printing solution—including finishing functions such as stitching-stapling. Océ is launching this combined solution in September 2003.
