KPG Announces Commercialization Of Inkjet Room Proofing Solution

Press release from the issuing company

K0necticut, USA --May 2, 2003-- Kodak Polychrome Graphics (KPG) today announced the full commercial availability of the One Bit TIFF Interface (OBTi) for Matchprint Color RIP. OBTi allows customers to proof separated screened one bit TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) files using their large format inkjet proofer. The combination of Matchprint Color RIP and OBTi lets customers implement an optimized proofing and print production process, RIP Once Output Many (ROOM). The ROOM workflow ensures color consistency and data integrity because high quality, color accurate proofs are produced from the same file used to generate plates. Announced at Graph Expo in 2002, OBTi has been enhanced during beta testing. OBTi provides a number of efficiency advantages over other ROOM proofing solutions, including increased processing speed and support for concurrent processes. In addition, OBTi delivers high quality color proofs using Matchprint Color RIP and supports spot colors using the Pantone licensed color library. KPG also announced the availability of a free application called TIFF Test. TIFF Test is available for download from www.kpgraphics.com/tifftest and is an executable application that determines compatibility of a TIFF file with OBTi. Customers can download TIFF Test to evaluate their workflow compatibility with OBTi or to diagnose possible problems with a TIFF. “OBTi expands the benefits of inkjet proofing by helping customers implement a simple to use and automatic ROOM proofing solution and prevents interruptions to their digital print production workflow,” said Robert Pipe, Worldwide Product Manager, Color Proofing, KPG. OBTi is compatible with multipage, multicolor (CMYK + 8) One Bit TIFF files created by Brisque, Presstek, ECRM, Prinergy, Agfa Apogee, and PCC workflows. OBTi supports TIFF 6.0, TIFF G3, TIFF G4, Packbit, LZW compressed TIFF and uncompressed TIFF files.
