AIIM 2003 (Booth # 2219), New York, NY, April 7, 2003 - eCopy, Inc., a leading provider of products that transform paper documents into digital information, today announced the availability of eCopy Suite 8.0, which incorporates eCopy's new Xpert Compression Technology. Xpert Compression Technology enables efficient compression of scanned color documents, while maintaining excellent reproduction quality of text, graphics, and pictures. Resultant files comply with the industry standard PDF format and enable users to create searchable text. With eCopy Suite 8.0, users can now scan and e-mail, fax, and store hard copy documents as duplicates of the original, whether they are black and white or color, right from their digital copier or high-speed document scanner.
"For over a half-decade, eCopy has been at the forefront in eliminating barriers to the wider adoption of network scanning in everyday offices, setting the standard for ease-of-use, robust networking, and application integration," said Brian Bissett, editor, The MFP Report. "With the launch of eCopy Suite 8.0 and the innovative Xpert Compression Technology, eCopy promises to make instantaneous color document communication simple, powerful, and practical for the very first time."
eCopy Suite 8.0 transforms paper documents - color or black and white - into an electronic image that can be delivered through multiple distribution methods. After scanning the document at a high-speed digital copier or scanner, the user can send the image via e-mail. Once delivered, the recipient receives a first generation quality copy of the document. Additionally, the user can store the scanned document in their document management system or send it back to their desktop where they can annotate, make a document editable, or combine the document with electronic files.
A typical 24-bit color document scanned at 300 DPI yields 24MB of raw data. Using industry standard JPEG compression, file sizes can be reduced to 1.2 MB, but the text is fuzzy. Using eCopy's new Xpert Compression Technology, files sizes are around 140KB with sharp text and smooth colors.
Developed by eCopy, Xpert Compression Technology analyzes a document and identifies the content. It then applies the most appropriate compression technology for that type of information, resulting in the best possible reproduction of the original, either printed or on-screen. Xpert Compression Technology typically reduces scanned color documents by over 100X, resulting in files that can easily be transmitted across a network, digitally stored, and printed with superb text and image quality.
"With eCopy Suite 8.0, businesses can send color documents quickly and easily without using overnight letter or courier services-netting them thousands in savings and speeding up decision making," said Edward Schmid, president, eCopy, Inc. "We have created a solution that enables users to electronically distribute any hard copy document, whether color or black and white."
eCopy Suite 8.0 will support Canon's new Color imageRUNNER C3200. Canon U.S.A. was recently named number one for copiers sales in the U.S. for the fifth consecutive year, and holds the number one position in every black and white copier speed segment, from desktop PC models to production level devices. eCopy Suite 8.0 will also support high-speed color scanners, as well as the black and white scanners and digital copier devices supported today. Additionally, it will include all the ease-of-use features, security, and authentication features users have come to know.
