Agfa Monotype Announces New 1300 Font Monotype Library Collection

Press release from the issuing company

Wilmington, Mass., April 2, 2003 - Agfa Monotype Corp. has introduced a new Monotype Library of 1,334 fonts. Over 300 new fonts are in the collection, with designs such as Linex Sans, Haarlemmer and Mosquito. Also featured are timeless Monotype faces including Gill Sans and Times New Roman. The contents of the library can be viewed at www.fonts.com/mtlibrary. "Our newest version of the Monotype Library contains all the proven classic designs that graphic professionals have come to rely on, plus every new typeface we've released over the last several years," said Allan Haley, director of words and letters at Agfa Monotype. "Every face meets the rigorous standards set by our typeface review board. This is one powerful font library." For graphic designers, the library's long list of fonts calls to mind the modern roots of typography. Numerous faces in the collection were drawn by some of the most well-known type designers of all time. Eric Gill, for example, created Gill Sans in the late 1920s for Monotype. Type styles from the company's early years, including Plantin, released in 1913, and Gill's Perpetua, which debuted in 1929, are represented in the collection. During the 1930s, styles such as Rockwell, Ehrhardt and Joanna were added to the library. Notable contributions from the 1950s and 1960s include Dante, Apollo and Sabon. Newcomers include Cartier Book , released in 2000, Scene, available since 2002, and Mundo Sans, new this year. Several fonts that have been designed for Agfa Monotype, such as the three Rotis families, are found in the library. All fonts within the Monotype Library are available for both Microsoft Windows and Macintosh platforms. Each font includes the euro currency symbol. Agfa Monotype is the exclusive distributor of the CD-ROM-based library that will be available May 1, 2003. Customers may pre-order the collection by calling Agfa Monotype at 1.800.424.8973, prompt three.
