MeadWestvaco acquires supplier of calendars, gifts and stationery products

Press release from the issuing company

STAMFORD, Conn., Feb. 28 -- MeadWestvaco Corporation announced that its Consumer & Office Products Group has acquired AMCAL, Inc., a privately held company that designs and supplies licensed calendars, gifts and stationery products. Since its founding in 1975, AMCAL has established key product lines and solid distribution channels. Based in Concord, California, AMCAL employs more than 60 people and produces decorative calendars, journals, notepads, porcelain mugs, telephone and address books, and boxed note and holiday cards. "AMCAL has valuable relationships with licensors such as Thomas Kinkade, Charles Wysocki, Warren Kimble, Cheri Blum and Debbie Mumm, to name a few among several unique and talented artists. Its premier AMCAL and Walnut Creek brands, distinguished by uncompromising quality and design, will be a great addition to our company's existing product lines," said Neil A. McLachlan, president of MeadWestvaco's Consumer & Office Products. "Combined with its distribution channels into gift, book and specialty stores, AMCAL's product lines are highly complementary with our operations. We anticipate leveraging our core sales and marketing, administrative, and manufacturing capabilities to improve an already strong position in the decorative calendar and gift and stationery products markets." Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
