MAN Roland lives large at Print Ontario with a road trip to Ellis Packaging

Press release from the issuing company

Pickering, Ontario — Big presses are verboten at Print Ontario, the Toronto-based expo that features small to mid-sized equipment. So to exhibit the power of its 41" ROLAND 700, MAN Roland treated its broader-minded guests on the road trip, transporting them to Ellis Packaging Limited for an open house that features the press in a working environment. One of Canada’s leading high-end folding carton producers, Ellis has a special focus on serving the confectionary, personal care and pharmaceutical industries. The newest presses in its sheetfed pressroom are a six-color and a seven-color ROLAND 700, equipped for perfecting and in-line UV coating. The seven-color 700 took center stage during the Print Ontario field visit, which was conducted the first day of the show, on November 23rd. The press demonstrated its perfecting prowess, printing a Ferrari poster that included a text message on the back in one pass. "Six-over-one is an ideal configuration for a package printer," says Greg Botell, Director of Manufacturing at Ellis Packaging: "You can print four-color plus spot colors on the exterior of the package and instructions or coupons on the inside. We used to do this in two passes. Our ROLAND 700 perfector lets us do it in one to deliver some big time productivity." Applying UV coatings in-line is also an important factor in Ellis single-pass philosophy. "Our business in the UV segment of the packaging market has grown immensely since we installed our ROLAND 700s," Botell adds. As to the open house, Botell explains that the event was a first for Ellis Packaging, but it won’t be the last. "We intend to conduct another one with MAN Roland in February or March. This one was a learning experience for us. The next one is for our customers and prospects."
