Domtar Donates Six Million Sheets of Paper to 300 Literacy Organizations

Press release from the issuing company

MONTREAL, Dec. 12 - DOMTAR INC. and the LITERACY FOUNDATION are continuing their commitment to literacy organizations by celebrating the sixth edition of "Domtar's Paper Christmas for Literacy" project - the very first edition in Ontario - on the theme "Reading Takes Root". This project to support and enhance the efforts of individuals with low literacy skills shows Domtar's support for the work of literacy organizations in Quebec and Ontario by supplying them with an essential tool: paper. This major donation of 6,320,000 sheets, equivalent to a little over 21,000 sheets per organization, will meet a substantial portion of the annual paper requirements of 180 French and English-language literacy organizations in Quebec and 120 organizations in Ontario. The paper is to be distributed December 9 to 20, 2002 in Quebec and Ontario through the cooperation of invaluable partners: Rapid Delivery, RTI Transportation Services, Concorde Distribution, TransProvincial Freight Carriers Ltd., Manitoulin Transport, Meyers Transport, The Rosedale Group, Daily Transport, Transport Robert, Transport Thibodeau, Transport Marcotte, Consolidated Fastfrate, JBR La Maison du Papier, Transport Nord Plus and Transport G.M.S. Ménard Inc. Through this action, Domtar and the Literacy Foundation also hope to raise public awareness of the importance of learning and of enhancing individuals' reading and writing skills, since in Quebec 21.1% and in Canada as a whole 17% of the population aged 16?65 have very limited reading abilities.
