Mutoh America Launches ISIS Print Manager, Large Format RIP Software
Press release from the issuing company
TEMPE, Ariz.--Nov. 22, 2002-- Mutoh America Inc., a worldwide leader and manufacturer of large format commercial inkjet printers, today announced it will begin shipping its new ISIS Print Manager(TM) software with all Mutoh Falcon-II and Toucan printers sold in North and South America beginning this month.
The new software combines a PostScript-3 compatible interpreter, PDF 1.3 import and export capabilities, vector file support and extensive image manipulation controls with an ICC color management system, as well as Mutoh's proprietary raster screening technology. ISIS Print Manager is an advanced imaging solution designed to enhance productivity while complementing existing third-party graphics applications.
The ISIS Print Manager software is designed for Microsoft's Windows 2000 and XP. All new and existing registered Falcon-II and Toucan owners in North and South America will receive a free copy of the software along with five-user licenses. The software, which does not require the use of a hardware "dongle" lock, can be installed on any compatible Windows PC.
Developed in a joint effort between Mutoh America's Advanced Engineering Group, based in Tempe, and Torrance, Calif.-based Total Computing Solutions of America, a subsidiary of Tokyo Computer Service, Tokyo, the ISIS software was developed from the ground-up to provide Mutoh customers with an advanced set of imaging and production printing tools.
PostScript-3 and PDF 1.3 compatible, the ISIS Print Manager software is intended for production printing applications. The design philosophy is based on extensive customer feedback; the target user of the software is the production personnel tasked with running the printer. The ISIS software can import more than 60 common raster formats, most common vector formats, PostScript, Encapsulated PostScript and Portable Document Format files.
One innovative feature of the ISIS software is the Color Test function that combines Step-and-Repeat with the software's standard color controls. Users start by setting the dimensions of the output page then selecting the size of the color test image to be printed. The entire image, or just a specific section of the image can be used.
Next, the user selects a color control and enters a minimum and maximum value. The software then automatically determines the number of sample images that will fit on the output page and applies a proportional adjustment to each of the sample images based on the selected range values. The user can then preview the Color Test composite on screen prior to printing. The adjustments applied to each sample are listed on-screen for easy reference. Color controls include hue, saturation, brightness, contrast and color balance.
After printing the color test page, select the color range that looks right, apply the corrected values to the original image and re-print. The ISIS Print Manager software provides full support for user-supplied ICC compliant color profiles.
For the Falcon-II printer, the ISIS Print Manager software acts as a standalone "software RIP" capable of driving the printer directly from any Windows PC. The ISIS Print Manger software supports "RIP-on-the-fly" operation, meaning that print data is passed to the printer as it is being generated.
For users requiring multi-user print server functionality, or direct Macintosh printing support, the ISIS software can be combined with Mutoh's Thunderbird print server. This PostScript-3 compatible network hardware server ships standard with the Mutoh Toucan-64 and 87, and provides users with the flexibility of printing via the ISIS software, or directly from virtually any Windows or Macintosh application.
ISIS Print Manager was designed specifically for Mutoh's own line of large format commercial inkjet printers, but can also support standard Windows printing, allowing it to print to any printer with a compatible print driver. A special Windows Print Option dialog allows users to preview an image, control image layout and even apply ICC color profiles. This means Mutoh printer owners can also use the ISIS Print Manager software with all of their printers and plotters, regardless of manufacturer.
