Xerox askOnce Enables Enterprises to Integrate Content From Any Data Source

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--Nov. 22, 2002-- Xerox has turbocharged its askOnce enterprise content integration software by adding powerful new information summarization, clustering and ranking capabilities that make it even easier for users to search through and integrate information from assorted sources with just one query. In information-intensive environments such as business intelligence, intellectual property management or regulatory monitoring, askOnce 3.0 offers multiple productivity advantages over conventional methods of information gathering. In addition, it's quick to implement and affordable. Like its earlier version, askOnce 3.0 provides a single access point to any information source -- internal or external, structured or unstructured -- including the Internet, corporate Intranets, databases, legacy systems and popular repositories. And it can find foreign-language documents from a "mother-tongue" query, and provide translation assistance. New and enhanced features of askOnce 3.0 include: * Dynamic Concepts: Helps people quickly pick the right information by transforming long lists of search results into organized information. It automatically groups search results into categories that are intelligently created from the words and phrases contained in them. * Relevancy Ranking: Provides on-the-fly ranking of results retrieved from the various sources of information. * Document Snapshot: Extracts key sentences in the documents to summarize and create an intelligent "snapshot" of the source file, allowing the user to rapidly find and comprehend relevant information. * Export Results to Any Application: Easily integrates with core applications so that retrieved results can be exported to any kind of repository as well as applications such as databases, spreadsheets or groupware tools. To keep up-to-date with critical information, people also can program askOnce 3.0 to automatically search for requested information at regular intervals, such as every day or every week. When the results come back, askOnce then automatically identifies any changes from the previous query and notifies a distribution list via e-mail. askOnce relies on its unique "wrapper" technology, which are intelligent software interfaces that connect askOnce into data repositories. askOnce 3.0 is shipped with a core set of wrappers giving access to applications and repositories such as Documentum, DocuShare, Lotus Domino, Oracle, Microsoft Site Server, Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server and Web services. Additional wrappers are available from the wrappers library, and custom wrappers can be developed as well. Based on document technologies developed at the Xerox Research Centre Europe, askOnce 3.0 is sold through Xerox direct sales representatives and is available worldwide. Prices start at $18,000 for 50 users.
