TORRANCE, Calif. U.S.A. (Nov. 15, 2002) - Xplor International, the worldwide electronic document systems association, presented three prestigious awards at Xplor 2002's closing session in Anaheim, California U.S.A. Innovator of the Year Inland Paperboard and Packaging received the Innovator of the Year Award for merging the gap between document printing and digital packaging. Through innovative machine design, Inland created the first completely digital variable data non-impact press, which prints directly on rigid corrugated material, a solution called PackageGenie.com Digital Process. Accepting the award was Mary Kay Schilling, Developer of PackageGenie Digital Technology, who developed and managed this project since its inception. "Inland Paperboard and Packaging is honored to have been chosen by the Global Xplor electronic document systems industry to receive the Innovator of the Year Award. We are pleased to have our PackageGenie digital technology recognized by the true innovators of the digital, variable data industry," remarked Schilling. About the Award Xplor International's "Innovator of the Year" Award honors a company, individual, or organization that has made a significant achievement in the electronic document systems industry, providing an imaginative tool, or advancement of a current technology that improves the capabilities of the industry and helps society communicate more effectively. Xplor Chairman of the Board James Shand, EDP noted "I was very pleased to see amongst the nominations someone who has really crossed the boundaries of our traditional industry by bringing two very different technologies together-a well deserved award." About the "Innovator" Inland Paperboard and Packaging creates solutions to protect, move and display products more efficiently and effectively. Inland's global resources include design offices and service centers, containerboard mills, corrugated box plants and facilities for high-end packaging and merchandising. This array of capabilities allows Inland Paperboard and Packaging to provide seamless solutions for its customers covering all aspects of packaging, from design to the retail shelf. Xplorer of the Year Xplor's Xplorer of the Year Award recognizes and honors the individual who has made the greatest contribution over the past year to the association. This year's recipient, Scott Kelly, EDP of US Lynx was recognized for dedicating his time, expertise, and his company's resources to further the mission of Xplor International. As an active Xplor member, Kelly is a leader in the Northeast Region, and serves on the IBM Joint Technology Council. As Chairman of the EDP Commission he has made significant contributions to the EDP Program by providing strategic direction, raising the level of awareness of the program, and increasing the number of successful candidates certified each year. Kelly, a leader by example, is a champion for Xplor and the industry. "Scott has been a driving force for Xplor's EDP program, and we fully appreciate his continued support of the organization", said Chairman of the Board James Shand, EDP. Scott Kelly, EDP, has been active in the electronic document industry for over 25 years, and was a pioneer in the computer typesetting business, as a founding partner of U.S. Lithograph. Subsequently he was involved in a number of media conversion and SGML initiatives, and helped his company write software for Xerox for the Docutech launch. These days he manages the development of interactive data-driven web sites and related laser printing. Kelly is chair of Xplor's Certification Commission, chair of Xplor's IBM Joint Technology Council, and has been a speaker at a number of Global Conferences. Upon receiving the award, Kelly remarked "…I started my career in typesetting and graphic arts. Imagine how intimidating my first Xplor conference was, coming from that background. I listened as members talked of managing pages in the millions, or tens of millions…Xplor was a very impressive group and still is. Xplor members have always been open in sharing their knowledge with me, bringing me up to speed. I can testify that the Xplor family that our Chairman, James Shand talks about is a reality. This award symbolizes that I'm not a full-fledged member of that family." Chairman's Award Geri Del Priore, EDP was awarded the prestigious Xplor International Chairman's Award, recognizing an individual for a lifetime of contributions as volunteers of Xplor, and as leaders in the electronic document systems industry. When asked for reaction, Del Priore said, "It's an unexpected and tremendous honor, both personally and professionally, to be recognized by my industry in this way." Geri Del Priore, EDP, an independent consultant and principal of Gem Consulting Services, has been an active Xplor participant for at least 14 years, serving as both Vice President of the Northeast Region; Chairperson of the Xerox JTC for eight years, and as Treasurer and Vice Chairman of the Association Board of Directors. Notes Chairman of the Board James Shand, EDP, "It's always a very difficult award to choose a recipient for given the many people who contribute to the association. Del Priore was chosen for her long-term support of Xplor in many different facets over a number of years, working endlessly without recognition. It was my pleasure to offer this award to honor and recognize those efforts." About Xplor International: Xplor International is the worldwide association of the users and suppliers of the products and services that create, modify, and deliver customized information using a variety of document technologies.
