Cadmus Completes Consolidation of Periodical and Fulfillment Operations

Press release from the issuing company

Major Publishers Expand Distribution Business with Cadmus RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 10 -- Cadmus Communications Corporation announced today the completion of a multi-year project to consolidate its periodical back-copy storage and fulfillment operations into a single 200,000 square foot site in Hurlock, Maryland. This secure, climate-controlled facility currently serves approximately 160 publishers representing 1,200 titles with over 12 million copies in inventory. The distribution operation ships 2.5 million copies annually with shipping accuracy of 99.7% and inventory accuracy of 99.2%. Most orders are filled within 3 days of receipt, with rush orders expedited within 24 hours. In response to customer needs, Cadmus also plans to offer a Web-based order entry and inventory access system to further improve fulfillment cycle times and inventory controls by the end of this fiscal year. "We're pleased with the progress we've made in the consolidation process and are confident that we now have a facility and a capability that is truly world class," stated Bruce V. Thomas, President and CEO of Cadmus. "We are seeing a strong trend on the part of publishers to outsource back-copy storage and fulfillment services to reduce their capital investment and administrative overhead while, at the same time, responding more quickly to their subscribers, members, and customers. We are excited to have a strong capability to meet this growing demand and have been gratified by recent customer response. For example, our facility recently was selected as the North American warehouse operation for the world's largest STM publisher, Elsevier Science. Also, the American Society of Clinical Oncology has recently awarded their journal fulfillment business to us. These two significant new business wins are another vote of confidence in our improved back-copy and distribution capabilities."
