MicroPress Servers for Use With imageRUNNER and CLC Systems Ready

Press release from the issuing company

TAMPA, Fla.--Dec. 5, 2001-- Canon U.S.A.and T/R Systems announced the availability of T/R Systems' MicroPress SX, DX and MX document production servers for use with high-volume Canon imageRUNNER and CLC copier/printer devices. The announcement was made by the two companies at the start of the 2001 Canon Digital Solution Forum, which is being held at the Tampa Convention Center through December 7, 2001. The Canon devices that will initially be offered with connectivity to the MicroPress SX, DX and MX servers include the imageRUNNER 110, 105, 8500, 600, 550, and 60 models, and the CLC 5000. Customer on-site integration of the high-end Print On Demand (POD) solution will be available through all Authorized Canon U.S.A. Dealers and Canon Business Solutions locations. "Canon is very pleased to partner with T/R Systems in developing and distributing this very robust Print On Demand solution,'' said Tod Pike, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Canon U.S.A. Imaging Systems Group. "By fully leveraging the strength of the MicroPress, our high-end black-and-white and color systems are able to maximize throughput and productivity at all new levels, allowing us to approach an even broader base of customers.'' "This is an exciting opportunity for T/R Systems and Canon to provide intelligent and powerful Print On Demand solutions,'' said Mike Kohlsdorf, President and CEO of T/R Systems. "Combining the MicroPress X Series with Canon's black-and-white and color devices will make advanced job preparation and printing capabilities accessible to a much wider range of customers.'' The MicroPress X Series document production servers, which include the MicroPress SX, DX and MX models, are specifically designed for the POD market, and have the capability to transform mid-range print devices into high-end solutions that complete jobs at speeds typically associated with offset presses. By combining make-ready, production and clustering services into a single server solution, the MicroPress manages all aspects of POD workflows, providing maximum throughput, advanced job management, and sophisticated color management and document finishing. The MicroPress SX is a cost effective server that supports from one to four engines at their maximum rated speed, regardless of file size or complexity. The MicroPress SX also allows users to take full advantage of document manipulation capabilities, even if the original application that was used to create the print job does not have sophisticated job-formatting features. The server can perform error recovery at the page level, saving valuable time, and also has raster-based editing tools for quick re-printing of edited files without reprocessing. The MicroPress DX handles complex documents in environments that require maximum throughput from two to four Canon engines. T/R Systems' TRueCluster technology performs automatic load balancing and job re-routing for optimal throughput, while TRueEdit provides powerful post-RIP job editing and formatting tools for the creation of customized documents. Both features significantly reduce overall RIP time. The MicroPress MX builds upon the capabilities of the DX with higher processing speed and memory to handle output from two to 12 Canon engines. The MicroPress MX includes workflow automation tools for enhanced productivity and access to a broad range of hardware and software features, including e-PSM, the remote Print Station Manager for access to job management functions over the Internet. Availability and Pricing The MicroPress SX, DX, and MX document production servers are expected to be available through all Authorized Canon U.S.A. Dealers and Canon Business Solutions locations in the first quarter of 2002.
