Press release from the issuing company

DAYTON, Ohio--Nov. 2, 2001--Standard Register was named one of the nation's 500 largest and most innovative users of information technology by InformationWeek magazine. Based on patterns of technological, procedural and organizational innovation, the InformationWeek 500 is used as a measure of innovative ways that U.S. companies with revenues of more than $1 billion use technology. "Information technology is critical to Standard Register, both in how we operate internally as a company and in how we deliver value to our customers,'' said Dennis Rediker, chief executive officer. "We're putting technology to work to help us in our drive for operational excellence and continued leadership in our markets.'' Technology initiatives bolstering Standard Register capabilities and efficiency this year included deployment of customer relationship management software (CRM), data warehousing and data mining, an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, an Internet-based training initiative, Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) and wireless networking. These initiatives helped bring Standard Register once again to the InformationWeek 500, ranking 224th, according to the September 17 issue of InformationWeek magazine www.informationweek.com/855/rank.htm. Last year, Standard Register was number 345 on the list. In addition, the company has a variety of innovative technology solutions for customers, helping them improve business results. Through its wholly-owned subsidiary, SMARTworks.com, Inc., Standard Register provides buyers and suppliers with the leading e-business technology platform for improving business communications processes. SMARTworks.com also provides solutions that integrate catalog content and procurement, procurement management, digital product management, supply chain management and design to order capabilities. Currently, over 65,000 users process in excess of 240,000 line items per month via SMARTworks, enabling Global 3000 companies to drive growth, mitigate risk, and reduce operational costs. "We are pleased to be an InformationWeek 500 company,'' said Doug Patterson, Standard Register vice president and chief information officer. "It recognizes the company's technological advancement and focus on delivering value to customers, employees and shareholders. It's a never-ending journey.'' The InformationWeek survey and ranking are a key authority in IT tracking. For 13 years, the InformationWeek 500 has tracked the IT agendas of the nation's largest and most innovative IT organizations, providing a unique opportunity to understand and examine their business practices across core areas of operations. The InformationWeek 500 research project gathers in-depth information directly from the companies about how they approach and prioritize their IT investments.
