Heidelberg Digimaster: Enhancements for the Data Center Marketplace

Press release from the issuing company

ORLANDO--Heidelberg is bolstering the capabilities of its Digimaster(tm) 9110 Network Imaging System with new hardware product enhancements that provide expanded productivity.  In tandem with new software the company announced earlier this year, these features significantly enhance Heidelberg's capacity to serve customers with a transactional printing focus. At the Xplor 2001 Global Conference, the company announced that it will offer: Roll-feed integration with DocuSheeter DI(tm), which delivers continuous-run capability and a capacity of up to 60,000 sheets. The new Multiple Stacker 9110, which achieves greater productivity and enables a paper-store capacity of 18,000 sheets. The DocuSheeter DI and multiple stackers, complemented by the company's popular DataXceed(tm) software solution, enable a productive, streamlined workflow for both datacentric  and reprographic applications. Together, these enhancements underscore Heidelberg's commitment to meet the requirements of high-volume transactional printing that characterize the data center market. DataXceed is a turnkey production output software solution that works seamlessly with the Digimaster to recognize and process virtually all of the popular file formats used in data centers in industry, administration, banks and insurance companies - enabling cost savings by pooling printing between functional departments.  A common controller allows multiple data streams to be transformed and queued for printing without operator intervention or machine downtime.  "Incorporating the new DocuSheeter DI and multiple stacker feature into our Digimaster product family adds a new edge to Heidelberg's strategy to offer complete digital solutions to the transactional printing and book publishing markets," said Wolfgang Pfizenmaier, president of Heidelberg's Digital Print Solution Center. "Unlike the competition, we don't have to segregate central reprographic and data center applications; the Digimaster is a complete solution that switches between front end and finishing functionality seamlessly." Continuous Run Capability The new hardware accessories for the Digimaster 9110 enable continuous-run operation and allow the digital print system to handle even more complex jobs at its full speed of 110 images per minute. The DocuSheeter DI offers continuous run capability with a 55,000- to 60,000-sheet capacity, lowers labor and paper costs and reduces waste content. The roll feeder features an 11-inch roll width, enabling customers to seamlessly switch paper sizes (from A4/8.5x11 to A2/11x17) - without a paper roll change. Easily integrated with current Digimaster systems, the DocuSheeter DI is offered in three footprint configurations - attaching either in front, in back or to the side of the system's paper supply module. The roll feeder is manufactured by Roll Feed Systems, a paper handling equipment company in Burlington, Mass. Roll Feed Systems and Heidelberg will provide technical and marketing support for the product. The Multiple Stacker 9110 enhances productivity by increasing uptime. It provides continuous runs by delivering automatic output to the next available stacker after the current stacker is full. Plus, the full stacker can be unloaded on the fly, while the system is printing. Designed by Heidelberg in collaboration with CP Bourg, the Multiple Stacker 9110 also provides increased collecting and stacking capabilities with up to three stackers and a total storage capacity of 18,000 sheets (including the finisher). Customers can choose from multiple stacker configurations, along with the standard 3,000-sheet capacity finisher: Finisher with one, two or three stackers Finisher with one or two stackers, plus one Booklet Maker Finisher with one or two stackers, plus one Perfect Binder Both accessories are compatible with existing or new Digimaster 9110s. Heidelberg is offering an interface kit for existing customers to easily integrate the roll feeder into their current system. These accessories are offered by Canon, Danka, Heidelberg and IBM - the sales and service partners that sell high-volume printers employing the Digimaster system.
