Canon Document Scanners Receive Top Honors by Better Buys for Business

Press release from the issuing company

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y.---Oct. 1, 2001--Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in document imaging solutions and subsidiary of Japan-based Canon Inc., announced today that its DR-3080C and DR-3060 document scanners have earned the highly regarded "Editor's Choice'' award in the annual Better Buys for Business Scan-to-File Guide, the top honor from the publication. Both the Canon DR-3080C and the Canon DR-3060 scanners are extremely compact, high-speed units that provide fast, efficient scanning of up to 86 images-per-minute in Duplex mode. With state-of-the-art Canon image sensor technology, the DR-3080C and DR-3060 scanners offer image quality of up to 300 dpi resolution and 256 levels of grayscale, while the DR-3080C also scans documents in 24-bit color. Both devices, built upon the technology of Canon's highly reliable DR- 3000 series document scanners, received recognition for their versatility and cost performance. According to Jon Bees, editor-in-chief of Better Buys for Business, "We like the machines' clean design, portability, and good functionality for the money. At $4,800, the DR-3080C is only $400 more than the DR-3060, which makes it a very good buy. If you need a color document scanner for the office, the Canon DR-3080C may be your best option. It receives an Editor's Choice Award, like its grayscale sibling, the Canon DR-3060.'' Targeted toward the rapidly growing market of departmental users, the newest Canon DR-3000 series scanners include features and functions generally found in larger, more expensive systems. User-friendly software and hardware interfaces, Canon's patented Automatic Document Feeder technology and reputation for reliability have enabled the Canon DR-3080C and Canon DR-3060 document scanners to become best sellers since their introduction earlier this year. "Canon scanners' functionality and competitive price add up to an attractive option for our customers,'' said Joe Kremer, vice president of marketing for CDW Computer Centers, Inc., a direct solutions provider of technology to businesses, government agencies and educational institutions. "With their widely respected and recognized brand name, Canon products add to our promise of providing complete technology solutions to our customers.'' The Canon DR-3080C and DR-3060 document scanners include ISIS and TWAIN drivers to ensure flexible connectivity and compatibility with a host of scanning software applications. Software companies that have certified both scanners with their products include: LaserFiche Document Imaging; eCopy, Inc.; OTG Software, Inc.; Adobe Systems, Inc.; Cardiff Software, Inc.; Information Management Research, Inc.; Microsystems Technology, Inc.; Docuware Corporation; Alto Imaging Technologies, Inc.; Hyland Software, Inc., Action Point/Pixel Translation and TMSSequoia. Both scanners also can be equipped with Canon's optional ED500 Endorser that imprints numbers, stamps and dates onto checks, and letter-sized documents. The imprint position is operator-adjustable and conforms to Federal Reserve Bank regulations for check endorsement. The Canon DR-3080C and Canon DR-3060 document scanners are available through authorized Canon Image Filing Systems dealers and select distributors.
