Global Graphics Hardware Launches Cirrus 2 CTP System

Press release from the issuing company

Print '01, Chicago; Sept. 6, 2001 — Global Graphics Hardware, a division of Global Graphics (Nasdaq Europe: GLGR, Euronext: GLOG), today announces the commercial debut of the Cirrus 2 B3 platesetter and the SDT 650 plate processor here in Booth # 7105 at Print '01. The Cirrus 2 high-quality B3 platesetter, featuring integrated RIP and complementary SDT 650 processor, has been specifically developed by Global Graphics to answer the need for a complete and cost-effective CtP solution by smaller format printers or prepress houses entering the CtP market. The complete system retails at under $90,000 (Euro 95,000). The Cirrus 2 internal drum accommodates metal (silver halide, photopolymer and hybrid) B3 plates (up to 530mm x 505mm) and uses a HeNe laser for traditional red darkroom use. The Cirrus 2 is driven by the PostScript compatible Harlequin RIP and has a plug-in option for a range of third party proofing devices. Although an entry-level CtP system, the Cirrus 2 is a flexible and high performance device capable of imaging 24 B3 plates an hour at 2540 dpi resolution, or 37 plates an hour at 1270 dpi. The new, compact (2244mm x 1200mm) SDT 650 plate processor, shown in action at Print '01 alongside the Cirrus 2, features a patented developer section that ensures consistent high quality processing of B2 and B3 silver diffusion transfer plates. Designed for ease of use, the processor features flexible, operator-friendly software control, minimal maintenance and easy internal access to all components. Following successful pre-production installations at commercial sites in the UK, Europe and Asia, Cirrus 2 has now entered full production with shipments underway worldwide. Global Graphics is currently building an international distribution network for the Cirrus 2 and its associated products and distributors have already been appointed in the UK (Apex Digital Graphics) and The Netherlands (Monotype Holland). "The Cirrus 2 CtP system fills a gap in the CtP market for a productive and affordable entry-level system," explains Kevin Norman, Commercial Director, Global Graphics Hardware. "The response from industry has been very positive and, in addition to distributor sales under the Cirrus 2 brand, we are also seeking strategic alliances with press manufacturers requiring a complementary B3 CtP solution."
