Krefeld – Baumer hhs marked its 40th anniversary with a celebration on 12 June 2026 at its headquarters in Krefeld, Germany. The event was attended not only by the Baumer hhs team from Sales, Service and Administration – which counts over 350 employees worldwide – but also by original founders of the company.
“I am particularly honoured to welcome Ms. Helmy Sasse as well as Mr. Fritz Kurandt and his wife Dagmar”, said Dr. Oliver Vietze, CEO and Chairman of the Baumer Group (Frauenfeld, Switzerland). The Group acquired Berlin-based sensor equipment manufacturer System Kurandt GmbH in 1998 followed by hhs GmbH three years later. The latter had been established in 1986 in Ratingen, Germany, by Hans-Henning Sasse. Both companies supplied gluing and quality control solutions to different industries, in which their innovations led to significant process improvements. As part of the Baumer Group, the two companies were merged in 2003 to form Baumer hhs, with two production sites: at headquarters in Krefeld and in Berlin. Kurandt and Sasse sold their businesses to the Baumer Group to promote future growth.
“As a member of the Baumer Group, our company gained new momentum. We can take advantage of the infrastructure offered by this strong group of companies, and its extensive technical support strengthens our innovative force. As a manufacturer of intelligent, complete system solutions for reliable adhesive application in a variety of demanding industries, we contribute to the success of the Group”, said Baumer hhs Managing Director Percy Dengler. “Close ties with customers and the added value we can offer them have traditionally been the focus of all our activities. And they still are today.”
Partnership, precision and a pioneering spirit are the values that guide Baumer hhs in supporting customers and OEM partners around the world. The company maintains a global presence with subsidiaries in France, Great Britain, India, Italy, China, Mexico, Spain and the USA, as well as a sales and service network spanning over 120 countries. Since its establishment, Baumer hhs has been driving innovation in the global packaging industry, especially in the folding carton, corrugated, end-of-line and tobacco segments.
“In the folding carton and tobacco industries in particular, we are asked to participate in development projects at an early stage thanks to our position as global market leader. With our years of experience, we help partners to develop solutions that are tailored to the demands of the market. We often work together on these projects right here at our solution-center in Krefeld. With our technical equipment, we can test innovative products and determine how effective they are in practice”, said Dengler.
Baumer hhs is often a leader of developments in the industries it serves – even in areas that go beyond gluing and quality assurance. One example is the advancing digitization in the packaging world, in the wake of which packaging products are acquiring new functionality through QR and data matrix codes. Further examples include Baumer hhs’s role as a founding member of the 4evergreen Alliance and as a SUGRA partner. 4evergreen works across industries to improve the recyclability and sustainability of fibre-based packaging. The SUGRA (Sustainable Gluing with Renewable Adhesives) research project is developing biobased adhesives from starch which can be used in high-speed folder gluers.
Baumer hhs exports 75% of its products to customers all over the world. “We have always taken a holistic approach to developing solutions. It enables us to perfectly tune all the components of our complete systems to their respective applications. Our customers can integrate these systems into their production lines right away and start benefiting from their resource efficiency, energy efficiency and reliability for the overall process. This kind of approach builds a solid foundation for the continued growth of our company”, said Dengler looking to the future.
Founded in 1952, the Baumer Group currently has 2,800 employees and is a leading global manufacturer of sensor solutions. The family-owned business produces high-precision, smart sensor solutions for factory and process automation that are paving the way for the smart factory in many industries.
