After tragedy struck Beech Grove Independent Nazarene Church, local Minuteman Press owners Diana & Brian Renollet found a deeply personal way to help restore hope.

INDIANAPOLIS & BEECH GROVE, Ind. — Just before 11 p.m. on February 7, 2026, flames tore through Beech Grove Independent Nazarene Church, leaving behind devastation that could be seen from blocks away. The fire destroyed much of the beloved church building, including the large stained-glass window that had greeted generations of worshippers for decades. For many in the community, it wasn’t just a building that had been damaged — it was a place layered with memories, family history, and faith. The church building was deemed a total loss, and it will need to be built back up from scratch.

For Diana Renollet, Co-Owner of Minuteman Press in East Indianapolis with her husband Brian Renollet, the loss felt deeply personal. “The church was my childhood church, my parents’ church until they passed, and now my online Sunday church because the services are streamed live,” Diana shared. “Seeing that hole where the stained-glass window used to be shining was heartbreaking.”

But in the aftermath of the fire, amid grief and uncertainty, something powerful happened: the community began showing up for one another. And for Diana, helping the church wasn’t simply about donating signs or banners. It was about giving back to someone who had quietly carried her family through some of the hardest years of their lives.

A Pastor Who Showed Up in Life’s Hardest Moments

Diana says Pastor Don Bates, Jr. has been far more than a pastor to her family. “The first reason I wanted to help is because Pastor Don is one of the most sincere, humble, kindhearted, helpful people I’ve ever met,” Diana said. “He should be supported in his and the church’s time of need.”

Between 2021 and 2024, Diana and her sisters endured unimaginable loss — the passing of their father, mother, and sister within a short span of years. Through those painful seasons, Pastor Don remained a constant source of comfort. “He made my father roar with laughter at times when he was so ill,” Diana recalled. “He prayed with him. He helped our mother find peace after losing her husband of 63 years. When we lost our sister, he understood the suffering she went through and helped us carry that grief too.”

So, after the church fire, Diana immediately reached out. “I texted him and said, ‘If there’s anything we can do, let us know.’”

Helping the Church Find Its Way Forward

Soon after, the requests started coming in. The church needed banners directing people to temporary worship services in the school gym behind the damaged sanctuary. Diana, Brian, and their team at Minuteman Press in East Indianapolis stepped in to donate a large banner for the front of the property, yard signs guiding visitors toward the gym entrance, handicap parking signage, and additional directional signs to help the congregation continue gathering, together.

Pastor Don says those efforts helped reassure the community during an incredibly uncertain time. “Diana is very passionate about everything she does. Her connection to the church runs deep, and we are blessed that she is a part of our community,” Pastor Don shared. “Diana and Brian donated signage that let everyone know that we were still holding services, and that they could ‘Join Us in the Gym’. We were able to put signs in the front yard pointing people to the gym, and signs in front of our school.”

But while the practical needs were important, one thing continued bothering Diana. “The gym looked wonderful, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the stained-glass window being gone,” she said. “That image made the church feel like home.”

Then came an idea. Almost instantly, Diana envisioned a way to recreate the feeling of that missing window inside the temporary worship space. Before the day ended, she already had the project in motion. Without telling many people what she was working on, Diana and her team created a 4-foot circular replica inspired by the original stained-glass image and surprised Pastor Don with it when he visited their shop. “It’s not stained glass, and it’s not perfect,” Diana said. “But it does the job for now until the new church is built.”

For Pastor Don and the congregation, the gesture meant far more than simply replacing an image. “Diana has been so incredible in helping us maintain our identity,” Pastor Don said. “Our logo for the church includes the stained-glass window, and the day I went to pick up the signs, Diana said she had a surprise for me. She then revealed the replica of the stained-glass window that she printed, and it was just so special. I can’t tell you what that did for the psyche of everyone who experienced such loss; it was amazing.”

Today, the recreated piece hangs above the stage in the gymnasium where services are currently being held — helping transform a temporary space into something that feels more like home again. “With the image above the stage, it helps make the church’s temporary home feel a little more like it’s supposed to.”

“Join Us in the Gym”

As Easter approached, the church remained determined to keep its doors — even temporary ones — open to the community. The congregation adopted a simple but meaningful phrase: “Join Us in the Gym.”

To help spread the word, Minuteman Press donated the printing and preparation for a special Every Door Direct Mail Easter postcard campaign sent throughout the entire city of Beech Grove. The team has also committed to donating printing support for the church’s upcoming Fall Festival outreach efforts later this year.

For Diana, none of it has been about recognition. “It’s just been nice to help in the ways that we can,” she said. And maybe that’s what makes stories like this resonate so deeply. In the wake of destruction, there are still people quietly rebuilding hope — one sign, one gesture, one act of kindness at a time.
