PrintPlanet's 8,000 unique members served well during transition. 8/29/01 - Lexington, Kentucky - Printable announced today the purchase of the PrintPlanet.com forums and web based communities from Digital Art Exchange (DAX). WhatTheyThink, the leading content source of the print and publishing industry, has hosted the forums since April of this year. In a statement, Chuck Gehman, Printable's CTO said, "I am personally delighted that the community has a new home here at Printable. We’re excited to be able to support the industry with this incredibly valuable service." Gehman, having worked at DAX before Printable, was one of the visionaries of the forums along side Dave Mainwaring who has moderated the forums since inception. WhatTheyThink and PrintPlanet.com announced a partnership in April to combine the content from WhatTheyThink and the forums at one address. When DAX "ceased trading," DAX immediately started looking for a buyer for the forums. Randy Davidson, President of WhatTheyThink.com said they were excited with DAX's decision to sell the forums to Printable. "We are pleased that the forums have landed in the hands of industry friends. Dave Mainwaring, Chuck Gehman and the staff at Printable will ensure the viability and independence of this resource to the community. It has been our pleasure to serve forum members during these past five months and look forward to working with PrintPlanet.com in the future." In a statement to forum members, Dave Mainwaring expressed appreciation for the marketing and structural support offered by WhatTheyThink.com during the last five months. Mainwaring also praised WhatTheyThink's technical support efforts during the transition. Dave Mainwaring will become a member of Printable's staff. "Chuck Gehman provided resources for the forums since 1997 and was the original creator of PrintPlanet.com in 1999. I am pleased that Chuck has shown his support for this industry hub with its mission of education and fostering collaboration." said Mainwaring, "The Printable team brings the skills and resources necessary to take PrintPlanet to the next level, we plan to continue develop the site as the ultimate portal for the graphic communications industry."
