Solopress is proud to be the print partner for An Anarchy of Demons, the long-awaited autobiography of Charlie Harper, frontman of the U.K. Subs and one of British punk’s most enduring figures. The title is being published by Earth Island Books.
The book spans 498 pages and will be produced as a perfect bound paperback in Royal format (234 x 156 mm), printed on 100gsm white stock with a full colour 350gsm matt-laminated cover. The specification reflects the publisher’s desire for a high-quality yet accessible edition befitting Harper’s unique place in music history.
Harper’s memoir charts his life from rebellious schooldays and youthful adventures to the decades spent touring with the Subs and other bands. With a Foreword written by Rancid’s Lars Frederiksen cover artwork being Steve Dann of Magpie Art, An Anarchy of Demons offers a personal, unfiltered account of a life lived in service of punk’s original spirit, illustrated with previously unseen photos.
Earth Island Books is known for its catalogue of titles celebrating the DIY music scene, and Solopress is pleased to support their work with production that delivers both quality and speed. The first pressing of the book has been printed and finished in-house at the company’s Southend-on-Sea facility.
Jane Wickens, Head of Marketing at Solopress, commented:
“We’re delighted to be working with David Gamage at Earth Island Books to bring Charlie Harper’s story to print. It’s a brilliant example of how independent publishing and online print can combine to tell a story that means so much to such a passionate audience.”
An Anarchy of Demons will have its official launch at Rebellion Punk Music Festival in Blackpool on 7th August, where Charlie will be meeting fans and signing copies of the book. That’s ahead of general release on 5th September. The book is currently available to pre-order at Earth Island Books.
