Digital Plate Control Wedge Permits Calibrating Computer-To-Plate Devices

Press release from the issuing company

Western Springs, IL, July 2001 —The Ugra/FOGRA Digital Plate Control Wedge—distributed exclusively in North America by GRIPdigital—enables ready calibration of computer-to-plate devices. Daily use of the device optimizes plate production and ensures that press sheets correlate with proofs by permitting the operator to correctly set exposure and to control tone reproduction. In addition, plate production can be stabilized by referencing a known standard. An evolution of the popular Ugra/FOGRA PostScript Wedge, the Ugra/FOGRA Digital Plate Control Wedge consists of an information field, resolution patches, line patches, vertical and horizontal register patches, fine dot patches, a halftone wedge, and checkerboard patches. In addition, eleven visual reference steps—each consisting of two checkerboard fields surrounded by a reference halftone—are stepped in 5 percent increments from 35 to 85 percent dot areas. The Ugra/FOGRA Digital Plate Control Wedge is available in both MS-DOS and Mac versions. In describing the effectiveness of the product, GRIPdigital president Greg Imhoff commented: "The Ugra/FOGRA Digital Plate Control Wedge provides a known visual standard to which computer-to-plate devices may be calibrated and referenced. Some of the best CTP operations in North America now use the Ugra/FOGRA Digital Plate Control Wedge daily to maintain quality and proper resolution while optimizing equipment performance."
