Meadow's Daisy Top™ Refill System Wins Innovation Gallery at London Packaging Week 2024

Press release from the issuing company

Meadow, a Swedish technology start-up, has been awarded the prestigious Innovation Gallery prize at London Packaging Week for its groundbreaking Daisy Top™ Refill System.

Selected from over 190 exhibitors, the Daisy Top™ Refill System was voted "Best Product" for its revolutionary approach to more sustainable packaging in the beauty and personal care market by a record-breaking number of visitors.

The Daisy Top™ Refill System represents a new era in packaging by repurposing the world’s most optimised circular packaging—the aluminium beverage can—into an intuitive, scalable, and infinitely recyclable refill solution. This innovation enables brands to transition from single-use packaging to an alternative designed with sustainability in mind, leveraging established recycling infrastructures to drive packaging circularity on a global scale.

Meadow’s user-centred innovation is designed to seamlessly integrate into consumers' daily routines, ensuring convenience and a premium experience. By combining this refill technology with branded, reusable dispensers, companies can offer consumers a highly engaging product that minimises environmental impact.

"Sustainability must be easy and fun to engage people and drive real impact," said Victor Ljungberg, CEO of Meadow. "With great user experience comes great engagement, which results in higher conversions and real impact. That’s why focusing on UX was key to us during development."

The system's appeal goes beyond sustainability; it enhances brand identity and customer loyalty. Studies show that Meadow's refill solution boosts consumer interest and repurchase intention, making it an invaluable tool for brands seeking to attract new customers and foster long-term relationships.

"We believe our refill system not only promotes circularity but also allows brands to differentiate themselves globally," added Ljungberg. "Our solution provides packaging circularity today while offering brands a unique opportunity to strengthen their identity.

"At Meadow, we are continually addressing the challenges of circular packaging. Our ongoing research and fast-paced innovation ensure we remain at the forefront of packaging solutions designed for sustainability."

With its focus on minimal material usage, the Daisy Top™ Refill System eliminates the need for traditional pull tabs, further reducing the can’s weight while maintaining the infinite recyclability of aluminium. As 75% of all aluminium ever produced is still in use today, the solution underscores Meadow’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.

The Daisy Top™ Refill System is readily available at scale for brands, with the flexibility for companies to use it within their existing supply chains. Meadow is committed to helping global CPG companies achieve their 2030 sustainability goals by providing them with practical, innovative solutions that integrate into existing infrastructures.

Meadow’s win comes amid a standout year for more sustainable packaging solutions, with London Packaging Week showcasing the most innovative advancements. Organised by Easyfairs UK, the Innovation Gallery is a highly popular feature of the two-day event, spotlighting 10 transformative packaging projects selected from hundreds of entries. The Daisy Top™ Refill System was chosen as the winner from this carefully curated selection, which included solutions like RE-ZIP Packaging’s reusable boxes, Fenner Paper Company’s PaperWise, Viscose Closures' Plastic-Free Shrink Sleeves, and Ranpak’s RecyCold Climaliner. These innovations demonstrate the industry’s commitment to reducing environmental impact through creativity and technology.

With the success of London Packaging Week now behind, the focus shifts to the UK's flagship packaging exhibition, Packaging Innovations, set to take place at Birmingham's NEC in February. Over 460 exhibitors will gather to showcase their latest packaging design and sustainability advancements, competing for the coveted final 10 spots in the next Innovation Gallery. As the industry continues to push boundaries in creativity and environmental responsibility, all eyes will be on Birmingham to see which groundbreaking solutions will set the standard for 2025.
