Sheetfed Offset Is Alive and Well – Graphco/RMGT to Sponsor Offset Litho Section in WhatTheyThink

Press release from the issuing company

SOLON, OH - Graphco, a leading provider of offset print solutions in North America, announces that they will sponsor a new editorial section dedicated to offset lithography on WhatTheyThink. As the exclusive Midwest & Southeast Distributor for RMGT’s most popular 970, 920, 790 Series sheetfed offset presses, Graphco will support the thought leadership enabled by WhatTheyThink. Led by Content Editor Patrick Henry, the new section will focus on technological progress and business opportunity in the world’s most widely used graphic reproduction process.

“The lion’s share of page volumes and revenues of the largest printing companies in North America are still driven by sheetfed offset presses,” states Chris Manley, President of Graphco. “On both the commercial and packaging side, the printing process of choice continues to be sheetfed offset lithography. Graphco is proud to represent RMGT and partner with WhatTheyThink as thought leaders in the core manufacturing process in our industry. We’ve always believed that an educated consumer is our best customer, so sponsoring the offset litho section was a natural fit for Graphco and the RMGT brand.”

“Offset has always figured prominently in our editorial coverage,” said Eric Vessels, President of WhatTheyThink. “With many new advancements in offset technology ready to be announced at drupa, and at the upcoming PRINTING United Expo, we decided that the moment was right to consolidate our reporting about this essential form of manufacturing for printers everywhere. We are thrilled that Graphco is taking a strong leadership role by sponsoring this new section.”

In a recent interview Patrick Henry stated that the reports of offset’s death are greatly exaggerated, and in fact offset is very much alive and well in the 2024 overall print market. He observed, “I think what isn't sufficiently recognized is the extent to which offset lithography has been automated and digitized. In fact, except for the part of the run where the ink hits the blanket and then the paper, it's essentially a digital process, digitally controlled and integrated by workflow with the entire manufacturing process of the plant.”

“Progress in offset tends to fly under the radar in an industry that has so enthusiastically embraced digital alternatives to it,” said Henry, who has written for WhatTheyThink almost since its founding. “But that progress is genuine, and the aim of the new section will be to give offset the full measure of editorial attention it deserves.”

“I’ve really enjoyed my interviews with Patrick over the years,” concludes Manley. “He’s always well prepared and keeps an open mind about his subject. On behalf of both Graphco and RMGT we look forward to lots of engagement with our customers through the voice of such a professional Content Editor, and I’m personally looking forward to showing Patrick all the great new technology that RMGT has to offer during his time at drupa.”
