Spire Adopts Pageflex Mpower to Offer Web-to-Print Solution

Press release from the issuing company

CAMBRIDGE, MA - June 4, 2001 - Pageflex, Inc. (NASDAQ: BITS) and Spire today announced that Spire has adopted Pageflex Mpower™ as the standard software for Spire's Web-to-print solution, the Spire Collateral Construction System.   Built on Pageflex Mpower technology, the Spire Collateral Construction System delivers highly customized marketing materials through a Web-based interface. Customized marketing materials provide a stronger message to the consumer with less cost in their delivery. Spire has recently implemented Web-to-print solutions for clients including Sotheby's International Realty, Salomon Smith Barney, and Zurich Scudder Investments.   Pageflex Mpower is an enterprise-level Web-to-print solution based on NuDoc, a powerful, XML-based composition engine. Mpower uses flexible design templates incorporating "spring-loaded" text and image containers that dynamically adjust the page layout based on the sizes and shapes of the variable contents flowing into them.   Spire has been working in the digital print space since 1994 when the first Agfa Chromapress in the United States was installed at its Boston facility. The company has been developing custom solutions for years, including Web-to-print, to assist clients in integrating digital printing into traditional offset print programs and into marketing strategy.   The Spire Collateral Construction System allows clients to build pages on line from content databases and initiate short-run, long-run and variable data print projects from the its internet-based client interface.   "We've been on the leading edge of four-color variable print work for years." Said Rick Theder, Executive Vice President of Spire. "We've researched many back-end products that would interface with the Web, allow for high-end design, and produce a high volume of print-ready pages. Pageflex provides this solution for us today and has for the past few years. A compelling benefit to us is that Pageflex is not resting on its past accomplishments, but continues to provide significant improvements to Mpower."   "Spire has done an excellent job of implementing Pageflex Mpower to provide highly-customized services to its customers" said Sang Lee, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for Pageflex, Inc. "By using Mpower, Spire will be able to increase its range of offerings and make it easier for customers to order printed materials over the Web."
