Showcasing light control film for vehicles, the latest small and medium-sized LCDs, and CCMs and MEAs for hydrogen energy

Tokyo – TOPPAN Inc., a TOPPAN Group company and wholly owned subsidiary of TOPPAN Holdings Inc., will participate in the 16th AUTOMOTIVE WORLD 2024—Advanced Automotive Technology Show, which will be held at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center from January 24 through 26.

AUTOMOTIVE WORLD is a forum for technical discussions and business talks between automakers and automobile part manufacturers and suppliers from around the world. The comprehensive event showcases a wide range of the latest technologies aligned with cutting-edge automobile-related themes, including carbon neutrality, computerization and electrification, driving automation, connected cars, and lightweighting.

The TOPPAN booth (E41-28) will provide physical displays and demonstrations of a diverse range of the TOPPAN Group’s latest technologies for vehicle electronics. This includes LC MAGIC™, a liquid crystal light control film ensuring privacy inside vehicles, which will be presented in collaboration with sales partner TOKAI ELECTRONICS Co., Ltd. Visitors will also be able to see the latest models of TOPPAN’s Blanview™ LCDs, which deliver outstanding outdoor visibility combined with low power consumption. In addition, TOPPAN will showcase for the first time its catalyst coated membranes (CCMs) and membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs)—electrode components for the hydrogen energy field that employ a first-of-its-kind proprietary manufacturing method.

Light control film for vehicles that blocks light

LC MAGIC™ is a light control film that changes from transparent to opaque at the flick of a switch. At AUTOMOTIVE WORLD, TOPPAN and TOKAI ELECTRONICS will run a co-creation booth with an immersive demonstration of film on the rear doors and back glass of a car graphic switching instantly between transparent and opaque. Visitors will be able to see how this creates a bright and open space when the film is transparent, while ensuring privacy by blocking light when the film is opaque. The booth will also include a partitioned light control fixture demonstrating the latest “Normal Black” grade of the film, which turns black with visible light transmission (VLT) of just 5% when power is off.

Small and medium-sized TFT-LCDs delivering outstanding outdoor visibility and low power consumption

Blanview™ is a series of small and medium-sized TFT-LCDs that deliver excellent outdoor visibility while lowering power consumption. At AUTOMOTIVE WORLD, the TOPPAN booth will showcase for the first time an ultra-low-power 2.0-inch Blanview-R display, a new addition to the lineup that provides high reflective performance to enable outstanding outdoor visibility even without a backlight. The booth will be divided into solutions for mobility and those for industry and present a wide range of products that can meet the diverse needs of customers in terms of display size, resolution, display properties, and more.

CCMs and MEAs for hydrogen energy on display for first time

Catalyst coated membranes (CCMs) and membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) are core components of fuel cells that use hydrogen. They are essential energy-conversion devices for enabling a hydrogen-based society. Samples of prototype CCMs and MEAs produced by TOPPAN using a sheet-type double-sided direct coating technique are currently available for purchase. TOPPAN will display samples of five-layer and seven-layer MEAs for fuel cells for the first time at AUTOMOTIVE WORLD.

About 8th RoboDEX
The 8th RoboDEX will be held at Tokyo Big Sight on the same dates as the 16th AUTOMOTIVE WORLD. TOPPAN Holdings Inc. (booth W53-78) will showcase Hybrid ToF® cameras equipped with proprietary Hybrid ToF® sensors and run demonstrations of their use for controlling robots.
