Vycom Returns to PRINTING United 2023 with Successful Recycling Program for Rigid PVC and Acrylic

Press release from the issuing company

Collaborating with select exhibitors, show management and show services to ensure rigid material does not go to a landfill

SCRANTON, PA – Vycom®, a market-leading manufacturer of highly innovative plastic sheet products, returns to PRINTING United 2023 with its successful Vycom Recycling Program, where printed and unprinted rigid PVC and acrylic scraps and trim are reclaimed and repurposed. Visitors are encouraged to stop by the Vycom booth B9073 at PRINTING United to be held in Atlanta, October 18-20, 2023.

Designated collection bins will be stationed in select exhibitors’ booths including CET Color, Cutworx, Fujifilm, Kongsberg/MultiCam, Mimaki, Trotec Laser and Zünd, to collect rigid PVC and acrylic scraps and trim as part of their demonstrations. Working with Shepard, the official event services provider for PRINTING United 2023, these materials will be collected from the bins and sent to Return Polymers, a leader in PVC recycling and processing. The materials are then reprocessed into other products, ensuring they do not end up in landfills. Since the exhibit material collection part of the Vycom Recycling Program started in May 2022, Vycom has collected more than 6,500 pounds of material from three signage and graphics trade shows.

“The Vycom Recycling Program contributes to a circular economy in that we take material that was previously destined for landfills and turn it into long-lasting products,” said Kevin Duffy, Vice President and General Manager for Vycom. “Rigid PVC is a performance plastic material in a class by itself as it’s directly printable and formable, and immediately recyclable without some of the concerns the industry has regarding flexible vinyl such as the inclusion of adhesives or scrim. We take sustainability seriously -- in fiscal 2022, Vycom and its affiliates incorporated approximately 500 million pounds of scrap and waste into the manufacturing of our products, diverting that material from landfills through our recycling programs. Ninety-nine percent of scrap generated in our manufacturing facilities is re-used.”

The program is provided at no charge to participating Printing United 2023 exhibitors and is a win-win-win for all – the print service provider/fabricator, the customer, and the environment – with the opportunity to keep tens of millions of pounds of signage and graphics waste out of landfills each year, revolutionizing the industry to create a more sustainable future.

About the Vycom Recycling Program
The Vycom Recycling Program is designed to take back and recycle printed and unprinted rigid PVC and acrylic sheets, as well as scraps and drops from finishing and fabricating. The program is intended for users of rigid PVC, acrylic and PE products – in coordination with authorized distributors for drop-off or collection – to recycle used signage and scrap, which is returned to company recycling facilities and used to manufacture high performance residential and commercial products, ensuring these materials do not end up in landfills.
