Canon Announces New Software to Power imageRUNNER Series and DR-Series Scanners

Press release from the issuing company

AIIM 2001 NEW YORK, NY, May 1, 2001 - Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE: CAJ), today announced the availability of imageWARE Document Manager and imageWARE Scan Manager software, the Company's first applications designed for enterprise-level content management. Both software programs have been developed to support and enhance the functionality of Canon's successful line of multifunction imaging systems and document scanners, including the imageRUNNER Series and DR-Series. As a scalable client-server solution, imageWARE Document Manager can be configured as a small office/departmental, single-server system, or as an enterprise-wide, multiple-server system. The software is available in an entry-level Workgroup version (Workgroup Edition) and Enterprise version (Enterprise Edition). imageWARE Document Manager Enterprise Edition ships standard with MS-SQL database support, a Document Management client, and is comprised of multiple server modules each designed to handle specific tasks, as follows: * imageWARE Document Manager Server handles security, system configuration, MS-SQL database creation and other administrative functions. * imageWARE Text Search Server utilizes the ScanSoft Inc. 2000 OCR engine with Fulcrum Search Server. The OCR engine produces high-quality OCR results from scanned and imported documents, including most native document formats. * imageWARE Volume Manager stores all types of documents in pre-set sizes. Volume files are separated from the SQL database, keeping the SQL database "leaner" for better performance and back up. * imageWARE HTML Viewer allows for search and retrieve capability for users in an intranet/extranet/WWW environment. * Optional imageWARE Document Manager for the Web supports many functions found on the imageWARE PC client including download, upload, search, and view. * imageWARE Gateway allows Canon's iR3250 multifunction system to send scanned documents to Document Manager through the network. These modules can be installed on one server or multiple servers, depending on workload. "The availability of imageWARE Document and Scan Manager, when combined with our imageRUNNER and DR-Series, marks Canon's entry into enterprise level content management," said Tod Pike, senior vice president of Marketing, Canon U.S.A. Imaging Systems Group. "Our unique ability to address a wide range of diverse customer applications that span the entire range of document processing needs places Canon in an excellent position to attain strong market share growth." All imageWARE server modules have been developed to support either one server or multiple server environments for true enterprise scalability. The imageWARE Document Manager Client is the users' interface to the Document Manager System. With an easy to use graphic user interface that supports multi-page thumbnail view of documents and a Windows Explorer-like folder structure, it is simple to navigate and is user intuitive. Strong search functions allow for index, full-text, dates and annotation searching. Versioning allows for tracking changes to documents while user security ensures only authorized users have access to individual documents. Users can perform simple scanning, import documents, e-mail, print and fax from the client with simple drag-and-drop icons. imageWARE Document Manager Workgroup Edition is a peer-to-peer version capable of supporting small office and corporate department level installations. The software ships standard with a Btrieve database, document manager client, and can be upgraded to the Enterprise Edition as customer needs dictate. imageWARE Scan Manager is a robust scanning and indexing application that interfaces directly with imageWARE Document Manager databases. Supporting both TWAIN and ISIS protocols, Scan Manager allows users to scan/import images for pre-indexing before storing in the database. Zone OCR, area post-indexing, index importing and input masking functions improve data reliability and minimize indexing time. Job templates further increase throughput of common documents. Both imageWARE Document Manager Workgroup and Enterprise Editions will ship standard with a 10-user client license, with the Enterprise Edition being capable of supporting site license configurations. imageWARE Scan Manager and Document Manager is available directly through all authorized Canon U.S.A. dealers and subsidiaries at the following suggested retail pricing*: Suggested Retail Price imageWARE Scan Manager V2.0 $ 4,495.00 imageWARE Document Manager Workgroup Edition (10 Client License Incl.) $ 3,495.00 imageWARE Document Manager Enterprise Edition (10 Client License Incl., HTML Web Viewing Software Included) $ 17,495.00 Additional Client Licenses (15 Clients) $ 3,745.00 * All above SRP pricing includes 1-year maintenance and support agreement.
