ACCGC Accredits the B.S. Degree in Digital Media at University of Houston

Press release from the issuing company

The B.S. degree in Digital Media at the University of Houston has been accredited by the Accrediting Council for Collegiate Graphic Communications (ACCGC) (https://uh.edu/tech/digitalmedia/). This dynamic and progressive degree program has more than 500 full-time students and defines digital media as the creative convergence of digital arts, science, technology, and business for human expression, communication, social interaction, and education. What makes this Digital Media program incredibly unique is that it is one of just 18 programs in the United States that teach not just media for display on a screen, but also hands-on printing with facilities for the production and management of physical visual media (for more information, (see https://whattheythink.com/news/111743-graphic-communications-academic-discipline-rare-valuable-degrees/).

A visiting team of educators and industry leaders verified that the program meets each of the 15 ACCGC standards required for high quality collegiate programs. This includes strong leadership, an active industry advisory board, a system of quality improvement through measurement of benchmarks, an up-to-date curriculum, and outstanding teaching in the classroom. Dan Wilson, Managing Director for ACCGC noted, “without accreditation, there is no transparency to the inner functioning of a degree program. Websites can make any program look good, but accreditation assures everyone that the program meets the highest standards.

Said Dr. George Glisan, visiting team leader and coordinator of the Reese Graphic Communications Management Program at Appalachian State University, “the Digital Media program at University of Houston presents a valuable model for modern graphic communications programs.” Visiting team member Michael Shannon, Chief Revenue Officer at Printron noted, “the diverse student body is incredibly engaged in real world learning projects that will translate into an ability to excel in a variety of functions across the graphic communications industry, including creative services, marketing, production, and sales.” To learn more about ACCGC accredited programs, visit, www.ACCGC.org
