Press release from the issuing company
SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 16, 2001 - MightyWords, the Internet's premier seller and distributor of unique digital content, and Fatbrain, a wholly owned subsidiary of Barnes & Noble.com (Nasdaq: BNBN) (www.bn.com), today announced a partnership to make downloadable and printable professional titles available from new stores at www.fatbrain.com. MightyWords also announced the formation of an advisory board of high-tech professionals to assist in the creation and acquisition of additional MightyWords digital content for Fatbrain customers.
Today's announcement supports MightyWords' vision of the Mighty Network, a network of e-commerce leaders that distribute MightyWords' extensive catalog of professional titles. Partners in the Mighty Network include Barnes & Noble.com, Desaware, Fatbrain and WirelessAdvisor.com. Today's announcement emphasizes Fatbrain's core proposition of offering employees of corporate partners a quick and easy way to order professional and technical books, training and other publicly available materials.
"This partnership with MightyWords allows us to provide high-quality, instantly downloadable content to our customers in business and high-tech," said Dennis Capovilla, Fatbrain president. "Our corporate partners rely on us to provide the most up-to-date range of technical information and resources possible to help them do their jobs. MightyWords' download-and-print model helps us achieve this goal."
Chris MacAskill, chief executive officer of MightyWords, said, "Fatbrain enables MightyWords to offer content in context by showcasing our technical titles in the most popular stores on the Fatbrain site. Now MightyWords' 10-100-page downloadable tech titles appear alongside related books and training resources at Fatbrain, furthering Fatbrain's position as a one-stop resource for the technical and business professional."
MightyWords' new technology advisory board consists of John Mueller, author of more than 40 programming books for McGraw-Hill, Hungry Minds and other top publishers; Glenn Weadock, one of the country's most popular technical trainers and president of Independent Software, Inc.; and Ben Marchal, author of one of the best-selling XML books of all time, "XML by Example," with an updated version due out in July 2001 from Que Publishing. Through the members' extensive expertise in high-tech, the board will help guide MightyWords' content acquisition efforts as they relate to Fatbrain's customer base.
