Diamond Packaging Wins Seven Awards in 29th Annual FSEA Gold Leaf Awards Competition

Press release from the issuing company

Awards showcase Diamond’s folding carton decorating capabilities, including cold foiling and embossing.

ROCHESTER, NY – Diamond Packaging today announced that it won seven awards in the 29th Annual FSEA Gold Leaf Awards Competition, the industry's premier showcase for foil stamping, embossing, and other specialty effects. Awards were announced during the Amplify event in Minneapolis, MN.

The competition celebrates the quality, added value, shelf presence, security, and brand recognition that specialty finishing processes lend to the printed sheet. Entries are judged by a panel of industry experts on several criteria including design, execution, and level of difficulty.

Diamond won Gold Leaf and Bronze Leaf awards in the “Best Use of Foil/Embossing – Calendar” and “Best Use of Embossing (Creative)” categories, respectively, for its 2022 corporate calendar.

Diamond's 2022 calendar celebrates the company's sustainability and conservation efforts through its partnership with the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester, NY. Diamond has a long-standing relationship with the zoo and proudly supports the organization through donations, participation in their Environmental Innovation Awards, and annual Earth Day events.

The header features Roycroft Renaissance Master Artisan Laura Wilder’s “Animals of the Savanna” print commissioned by the Seneca Park Zoo. It commemorates the Animals of the Savanna Exhibit expansion, which features Masai giraffes, zebras, ostriches, a southern white rhino, and over a dozen other species.

The calendars were converted utilizing Clearwater ReMagine 30% PCW paperboard, cold foiled, and offset printed with four color process inks, in-line with UV matte, aqueous, and soft touch coatings.

Tightly-registered coatings were used to enhance the design and highlight the individual calendar components, including UV matte coating on the trees, grass, and animals, and aqueous coating on the sky and backgrounds. Soft touch coating adds a tactile effect to the giraffe and zebra. Cold foil was used on the Diamond text.

Multi-level embossing lends distinction and depth to the design. Many of the header components were embossed, including the iron gates, trees, animals, and text. Subtle debossing frames the entire calendar. Select backers components (including the lion, rhino, elephants, and Seneca Park Zoo text) were also embossed to add more depth and realism.

The calendar pages were converted utilizing Domtar Cougar Natural Smooth 80# Text paper and offset printed with four color process inks and UV matte coating. The watermarks continue the image printed on each of the three panels underneath. The unique finish and subtle colors beautifully complement the design concept.

The recyclable shipper was converted utilizing Clearwater Candesce SBS paperboard laminated to E-flute corrugated fiberboard, and offset printed with four color process inks, in-line with and aqueous gloss coating. It is artfully decorated with the custom giraffe pattern from Laura Wilder's “Animals of the Savanna” print.

Diamond won Gold Leaf and Bronze Leaf awards in the “Best Use of Cold Foil” and “Best Use of Overprinting Foil” categories, respectively, for P&G’s ARC Blue Light Teeth Whitening Kit packaging.

The folding cartons were converted utilizing Clearwater Candesce SBS paperboard, cold foiled, and offset printed with four color process and opaque white inks, in-line with UV matte and UV gloss spot coating. Overprinting process inks over silver foil creates brilliant metallic effects on the front, top, and rear panels that catch the eye and invite closer inspection.

The UV gloss spot coating is registered to the embossed ARC blue light illustration and provides a striking contrast to the overall matte finish surrounding it. It is also used to great effect on the diamond-shaped product benefits call-outs on the rear panel. Multi-level embossed accents add dimension and provide an upscale appearance unique to personal care products.

Diamond won a Bronze Leaf award in the “Best Use of Sustainable Design” category for Caldera + Lab’s The Clean Slate packaging.

The folding cartons were converted utilizing FSC-certified Neenah 100 PC White Vellum paperboard – made with 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) fiber – and offset printed with process black and PMS inks, in-line with UV matte coating. The inside was printed with custom black and PMS inks, in-line with UV matte coating.

The graphic design incorporates clean, simple graphics and a color palette reminiscent of the natural tones in the American West. Vertical columns of alternating, italicized text span the panels and create visual interest.

An embossed logo block on the front panel adds depth and dimension along with an appealing tactile quality that promotes consumer interaction.

Diamond won a Bronze Leaf award in the “Best Use of Embossing (Technical)” category for Interparfums' Oscar de la Renta Alibi packaging.

The folding cartons were converted utilizing Clearwater Candesce SBS paperboard, cold foiled, and offset printed with custom gold and process black inks, in-line with UV gloss coating, and aqueous matte coating. Overprinting transparent gold ink over foil creates shimmering metallic effects.

The graphic design incorporates an overall embossed leather pattern with exquisite stitching detail inspired by the fashion brand’s Alibi handbag with its signature lock clasp. The debossed Oscar de la Renta logo framed by an embossed white block on the front panel adds dimension and contributes to a unique visual and tactile presentation.

The combination of colors and textures beautifully complement the design of the primary container – a thick-walled flacon with clean structural lines highlighting the fragrance within, and topped with a gold-colored spray cap.

Diamond won a Bronze Leaf award in the “Best Use of Foil/Embossing – Folding Carton (Difficult)” category for Interparfums' Dunhill Icon Racing packaging.

The folding cartons were converted utilizing metallized polyester film (laminated to FSC-certified SBS board) and offset printed with opaque white, dense black, and custom green inks, in-line with UV gloss coating. The inside was printed with process black ink, in-line with UV matte coating.

An overall embossed diamond pattern is tightly registered to the black borders, which frame all of the panels. An embossed signature logo on the front panel adds distinction and reinforces Dunhill as a prestige brand.

The UV gloss spot coating is tightly registered to the embossed logo and vertical white racing stripes and provides a striking contrast to the overall matte finish surrounding it.

The combination of colors and textures beautifully complement the design of the primary container – a cylindrical metallic green bottle covered with the same embossed diamond pattern, and topped with a silver and matte black cap.

All of Diamond’s entries were designed utilizing recyclable or recycled paperboards and manufactured using 100% clean, renewable wind energy, in a Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWL) and Carbon Neutral (Scope 1 and Scope 2) facility.
