Bowne Business Solutions Buys Document Management Services, Inc.

New York, April 10, 2001 - Bowne & Co., Inc., (NYSE: BNE), the world's largest financial printer and a leader in document creation and management, today announced it has acquired Document Management Services, Inc. (DMS), a regional outsourcing company based in Boston, Mass. The newly acquired company is the premier provider of outsourcing services to the professional services market in New England. Many of Boston's leading law firms, investment banks and accounting firms are among its clients. DMS will become a part of Bowne's outsourcing unit, Bowne Business Solutions (BBS). Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Carl Crosetto, President of Bowne & Co. said, "The acquisition of DMS supports the growth of our outsourcing business and extends our capabilities to this strategically important market. DMS' philosophy and approach to customer satisfaction and relationships are very similar to Bowne. We're delighted to welcome DMS into the Bowne family." David Shea, President of BBS said, "DMS is the leader in providing outsourcing services in Boston and the acquisition will give us a strong foothold in this strategic market - supporting our growth strategy from both a geographic and customer perspective. Their portfolio of blue chip clients is similar to ours and will provide excellent growth opportunities for future services and expansion. Kathleen Volpe, President of DMS, will become Vice president and General Manager of the Boston region for BBS.
