All-Heidelberg Shop, Print Craft Installs 74 Karat Digital Offset Press

Press release from the issuing company

New Brighton, MN; March 20, 2001 - Print Craft, Incorporated, a leading marketing services provider with major national accounts and 180 employees, has installed a 74 Karat press from Karat Digital Press within its all-Heidelberg press facility. Print Craft is using the 74 Karat press to extend its services to the short-run reprint market and simultaneously to offer its commercial printing customers more cost-effective pricing while maintaining its profit margins. Print Craft, Inc. provides print marketing services for five major markets. These include local and national commercial printing, reprint printing, digital asset management, advertising and point-of-purchase displays for many high visibility clients including several blue chip manufacturing and apparel companies. The firm is able to take jobs all the way from prepress to print production, through finishing and binding. Print Craft's installation of the 74 Karat press in late January is a radical departure for the firm, said Bill Calengor, Print Craft President. Unlike Print Craft's all-Heidelberg lineup of seven conventional offset presses, the 74 Karat fits in with the digital workflow and short-run printing demands of the reprint market in particular. "With its focus on short-run, quality 4-color printing, the reprint market is a perfect match for the 74 Karat. Unlike the best alternatives, the 74 Karat lets us quickly prepare and gang four jobs on a single sheet and run them more cost effectively, and often achieve higher quality than the originals," Calengor explained. The 74 Karat is a compact, waterless and keyless, 4-color digital offset press with a 20.5 by 29-inch (4-up) format. The 74 Karat can run more short- and medium-run jobs per shift than conventional offset presses, and with considerably less operator effort. It can be easily integrated into today's digital workflows, thereby combining the power of full digital production with the high quality of true offset printing. Playing on its success in the reprint market, Print Craft is expanding the use of the 74 Karat press to its commercial market segments. According to Bill Calengor, 74 Karat advantages like fast makeready and automatic color consistency will allow Print Craft to offer its commercial customers the quality they expect from Print Craft at a lower price while increasing Print Craft's gross margins.
