Imation Launches AIT-2 Tape Cartridge

Press release from the issuing company

OAKDALE, Minn. (March 20, 2001) – Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN) today announced the launch of Imation AIT-2 tape cartridges, compatible with all Advanced Intelligent Tape™ AIT-2 drives and libraries. Each Imation AIT-2 cartridge provides 50 GB native capacity (up to 100 GB capacity with data compression) and a native sustained data transfer rate of 6 MB/sec. (up to 12 MB/sec. compressed). The combination of high capacity and fast data transfer rate makes Imation AIT-2 tape cartridges a strong contender for data-intensive network and tape library applications. Each cartridge features the AIT-2’s innovative Memory-in-Cassette (MIC) technology, which stores the tape file directory, search map and other information on an on-board memory chip. This capability dramatically improves file search and access times. "Imation is proud to announce support for AIT-2, which adds a key technology to Imation's tape portfolio," said Frank Russomanno, general manager of Imation data storage media and services. "AIT-2 offers a combination of speed, size, and cost-effectiveness that serves the needs of businesses coping with the amount of data that is increasing at an exponential rate due to the storage demands of e-business. AIT-2's performance in automated environments also makes it an ideal solution for firms that need a migration path to bridge from standalone drives to libraries."
