Imation Tames Unruly Web Color With Verifi Technology
Press release from the issuing company
OAKDALE, Minn.--March 14, 2001-- Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN) today announced the commercial availability of Imation Verifi(TM) Accurate Web Color along with the launch of the first web site enabled by the Verifi technology, workbook.com. Verifi Accurate Web Color is an Internet technology that modifies color images to compensate for the differences inherent in the way monitors display color. The Verifi system allows e-commerce business and consumer users to confidently purchase products online when color accuracy is critical to the purchasing decision. Workbook.com, the online version of the most comprehensive national directory of creative talent for the graphic arts industry, is the first to employ Verifi technology to serve color-corrected images to its online clients.
"For years our customers, award-winning photographers and illustrators, have trusted us to faithfully and accurately represent their work in print," said Alexis Scott, publisher of the Workbook. "In cooperation with Imation, we can now assure them of something that was impossible without Verifi technology--the accurate representation of their color images online."
"Art directors demand accurate color when evaluating the quality of an artist's work, and the Verifi technology lets them browse images with the confidence that the color they see in our online portfolios is the same quality they see in our books," added Scott. Graphic arts professionals have long trusted the printed versions of the Workbook as the most complete resource for reviewing the work of photographers and illustrators. The 2001 Workbook and companion web site, workbook.com, feature examples from more than 600 assignment photographers and 1,000 illustrators. Visitors to workbook.com will see the distinctive Verifi icon as a visual confirmation next to all images that have been served using the Verifi system.
"Imation will continue to parlay our brick-and-mortar successes--such as our legacy of managing critical color on paper--to make accurate online color a reality," said Barbara Cederberg, president, Imation Color Technologies. "In spite of the recent dot-com market consolidation, year-on-year e-commerce growth is more than 100 percent per year. This represents a significant opportunity for Imation to deliver our color expertise to a new market for us, the Internet. That opportunity starts today with Imation Verifi Accurate Web Color."
