DREWSEN SPEZIALPAPIERE Invests in its Reel Cutting Equipment

Press release from the issuing company

Plastic drinking straws are one of the many single-use plastic products that will be banned as the result of a European directive (2019/904) this year. Paper straws are a sustainable alternative. To produce drinking straws from paper, narrow reels, so-called bobbins, are required.

In order to support this trend and the increasing demand for high-quality drinking straw paper in narrow reels, DREWSEN has invested in a specialized slitting machine, rewinder model Conslit III from KAMPF Schneid- und Wickeltechnik.

Slitting paper machine reels into bobbins is very demanding. With the acquisition of this machine, which combines excellent product quality with high efficiency, DREWSEN now offers its customers the option of buying paper in precisely slit narrow reels.

Both straw and packaging papers with a substance of 30-150 g/m² and reel diameters of 20-80 cm are cut into narrow reels with a reel width from just 7.5 mm upwards. Web tension control, cutting quality and damage-free handling of the bobbins offer trouble-free processing for the customer.

With this step, DREWSEN combines the production of high-quality straw paper in large reel format together with narrow bobbins under one roof. The machine was installed in Lachendorf in mid-May, and the DREWSEN team are already familiar with the technology. With this investment, DREWSEN feels well equipped for the requirements of the future.
