GAERF Launches Outreach Program to Career Influentials
Press release from the issuing company
2/14/01 - As part of its campaign to promote a positive image of print and motivate students to choose careers in the industry, the Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation has announced a program to reach out to new audiences of "influentials" who can shape young people's career decisions, including guidance counselors, journalism teachers, art teachers and yearbook advisors.
The program will put information about careers in printing and graphic communications into the hands of more than 65,000 teachers and guidance counselors nationwide, with the potential to reach more than 6 million high school students.
The Foundation has signed an agreement with LearningWorks, a full-service educational marketing agency, to develop and distribute customized curriculum materials to teachers of art/graphic design, technology education and journalism, yearbook advisors, guidance counselors and vocational education counselors in all of the nation's nearly 30,000 high schools. The teacher kits will include a teacher's guide with industry information and subject-specific and general-purpose activities, a wall poster, student take home brochures and student and teacher surveys. The counselor packet will include a booklet with career overview information and referral page, a wall poster and response card. Development of the kits has begun, with distribution planned for the fall. An event to introduce the program is being planned for PRINT® 01, September 6 - 13, 2001, in Chicago, Illinois.
