Canadian Print Scholarships Announces In Memoriam Scholarship Recipients

Toronto Ont. – Canadian Print Scholarships is pleased to announce that the Canadian Printing Industries Scholarships awarded to students in the Graphic Communications Technology Program at BCIT have been named for the following British Columbia print industry leaders.

Elodie Brewer awarded the John Kouwenhoven In Memoriam Scholarship

John Kouwenhoven was a founding partner of Hemlock Printers and a strong advocate for regional training in the print industry. He served at length on the BCPIA board and was known for his commitment to helping individuals achieve their personal best.

Thomas Huynh awarded the Peter Purcell In Memoriam Scholarship

Peter Purcell established Inter-City Papers in Vancouver in 1984 and had a career in print that spanned 40 years, including an extended role as a Market Development Specialist. He is recognized as a dedicated leader, committed family man, inveterate golfer, and the ultimate salesman.

Agnes Pham awarded the Dick Blockberger In Memoriam Scholarship

Dick Blockberger was the third-generation President & CEO of Broadway Printers, a Director of the BCPIA and Canadian Graphic Arts Association, and Director & Chairman of the CPIA. He is recognized for his dedication to the industry with several awards.

“PrintForward Printing and Imaging Association of BC, was instrumental in helping Canadian Print Scholarships establish these In Memoriam Scholarships to recognize the unique contribution made by these leaders of Canadian printing industry, “ said Wayne Collins, Program Head of Graphic Communications Technology at BCIT.

“We wish these students the best of luck as they pursue their studies at BCIT,” added Gunther Sturhahn, Board Trustee at Canadian Print Scholarships.

The mission of the Canadian Printing Industries Scholarship Trust Fund is to attract the brightest and best students available to the graphic communications industry by providing financial assistance to enroll and continue in a post-secondary management or technical program at an approved institution.
